RE antioxidants + Nystatin = ? (for AIDS patients)

Posted by Trish on August 13, 2001 at 16:37:52:

I understand from what you told me that antioxidants negate (?) the effects of herbal antifungals. Does this apply to taking antioxidants when taking Nystatin/Diflucan?

I'm just double checking on this because I was having a converstation about herbal antifungals with my neighbor who is very interested in AIDS patients that have candidas. She wanted me to ask about this because she knows many AIDS patients treat their candidas with Diflucan or Nystatin and also take antioxidants. She is very allo oriented, though, and so didn't know about this connection. She kind of freaked out when I told her about this. I think she's concerned that AIDS patients may be harming themselves by using antioxidants while using Diflucan. I told her I'd let her know what anyone else has to say about this. Hopefully she's check out this site herself-hope springs eternal!!
Thanks AGAIN!
Trish

With AIDS patients, candida infections are secondary to the real problem, a weakened immune system!! I would rather see an AIDS patient go on something that can kill pathogens NO MATTER WHAT they take than to deal with antifungals that can only upset their body more. I would use Primal defense at high doses while taking Transferfactors PLUS, Perfect Food, BioPure whey protein (proven to help AIDS patients gain weight) and something that had POTENT antiviral effects. It has been shown that when antivirals are taken when the person is JUST infected, it can stop the virus from replicating but this will do nothing for someone that has full-blown AIDS. AIDS results when the immune system can no longer keep up. Therefore, Immune modulators and stimulants are needed as are herbs with antiviral properties. Olive Leaf extract is one such example. Plus, it doesn't harm the good flora. You don't want to take anything that harms the good flora when you have HIV infection. I hope this helps

Sorry-could you please explain?

You'd rather see them take something that would kill the aids virus than an antifungal? If they are taking an antifungal, like Diflucan, then they shouldn't take an antioxidant? Sorry, just confused...

Here's some info I ran across about using oils and diet in the treatment of aids.

Sorry. Actually, I avoided the question by explaining a different protocol.

Ok, if the person has AIDS and is taking Diflucan, I probably would NOT advice AGAINST antioxidants. The person with AIDS already has a lot of free-radical damage and cannot afford more. Antioxidants also strengthen the immune system. In a case like this, the benefits of antioxidants far out-weigh the negative

I understand

Thank you for explaining. I remember a time when I used to be able to comprehend sophisticated sentences. I miss my photographic memory, too. I hope all this comes back!
Anyway, I understand and will pass on this to my neighbor.
Thanks again,
Trish
