Any advice for dealing with an alcoholic Brother-in-Law near death?

Any advice for dealing with an alcoholic brother in law who seems likely to die soon?

He has been an alcoholic for 30 years and he never had any desire to quit, nor does he apparently now.

He was recently found by his boss near-death and was hospitalized. He spent several weeks in intensive care, but survived. The doctors tell us and him that if he drinks again, he will surely die. He's on some medicine to remove ammonia from his blood, but it gives him bad diahrea, so he'd rather not take it. But when he stops, his mind goes fuzzy and illogical, at least what mind he has left.

He went thru a month-long detox and he now is in a half-way house for 2 months, but the last time we talked to him, he wants OUT!

He lives alone and has no one in that state to look after him. Possibly his old job painting boats is still waiting for him, but I'm not sure he could ever paint again.

His brother who took him to where he is now is tied up for the next week or so on business matters and certainly is not wanting to take his brother out of the half-way house early, but then he will be able to take his brother back to his home, if that's what he still wants then.

My wife, logically, is distraut over the whole thing. And it casts a pale over the whole house.

He's all grown up and has to make his own decisions. We've done what we could do to help, but it seems to us to be all up to him from this point on.

Any suggestions for dealing with this!

Thanks!
