Herpes??? Please Help Me Doc...

Posted by Richard on October 02, 2003 at 21:17:45:

I know this topic has been done to death but I need to know... I've been reading alot of the stuff you and people visiting the site have been posting but I havn't found any answer to my question... I'm not 100% sure of it but I think that I had sex with a person possibly affected by herpes on SEPT 01 2003... The only reason I think I could have been exposed is because I fingured her and I felt a little bump near her vagina... I did wear a condom which was intact after we finished... 3 days after I started getting a redness on the head of my penis which seemed to spread further to just under the penis head... (I'm not cut) This redness looks like a rash kind of... I've not felt any itching, no pain, no blisters, no fever, no discharge, no ulcers, no fluid filled blisters but I can feel that somethings not right... I've gone to get an STD test done and it came up with negative... I've seen 2 differant doctors aswell... One told me it was an allergic reaction, yet I have no known allergies... The other told me that what he was seeing was something my mind thought up of... I'm still stressing about this... It's been over a month now and the redness is still there... Could this me some kind of freak outbreak??? I've been using chordizone 1% cream, sorry for my spelling, I don't feel like it's helping... I'm quite healthy, I work out 6 days a week, usually 2 - 3 hours a shot... I'm in good shape, I feel strong... I'm not sick too often, but I did just recently have the flu... The redness did not get any worse during this flu... I have no bumps but I can feel something down there still... PLEASE please help me... What could this be??? Why did it appear a few days after having this one night stand... FOR ANYONE READING THIS MESSAGE PLEASE LISTEN TO ME... I used to be quite sexually active, all my friends are bar stars, most of em already have STDs... I felt like it could never happen to me... I'VE ALWAYS USED PROTECTION... These one night stands people are having ARE NOT WORTH IT... YOUR NOT COOL FOR HAVING THEM, one disease could ruin your entire life, and for what, some easy lay??? Please listen to me, I'm a 23 year old male, this is devasting my entire life, I've even cried, and I never cry... It wasn't worth it... I can't stress that enough... DONT SLEEP AROUND !!!

To anyone answering... THANK YOU

Latex allergy???? Just because you have never has a latex(rubber) allergic reaction before, does not mean you didnt.. If this in a reaction to latex you need to find out as the next reaction could be so severe as to potentially cause death.. So here is something else for you to be worried about, as if you didnt already have enough!

I think you can rule out herpes because.....

I want others to read it... Feel my pain so that they might think twice before doing as I did... I know I will never have another 1 night stand for as long as I live... But now it might already be too late, I might never experiance love again... To answer some of your questions... I feel no pain... I can however feel something down there... Could I have had an allergic reaction to latex and have a rash from it for a month though??? I was also woundering if this redness could be a sign of herpes to come, maybe 1 month, 3 years, 15 years down the road??? THANK YOU TO ANYONE WHO ANSWERS ME...

Rich

Did you, by chance, use a different type/brand of condom?

I know this is a sensitive issue and that you're quite troubled. I'm sorry, I don't have any great info. for you. A thought I wanted to share was that my husband has a sensitivity to condoms sometimes (definitely the spermicides on them such as nonoxynol-9 and possibly the latex as well). Sheepskin condoms without spermicides don't seem to bother him.

I think if it were me, I probably would discontinue the cortisone cream. I'm not sure what the benefit of that would be in this case. Could even be causing some additional irritation?

Another thought, a book that Dr. Stoll recommends as pretty much standard reading to everyone is Kenneth Pelletier's "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer." I haven't been able to get a copy to read yet, but I have a feeling it explores the mind-body connection and illness. I hope the doctor you saw was not trying to be mean when he said your mind was making it up, but there might be something to that.

If it is herpes, I'm not aware of anything you can do to undo what's already been done. Definitely you'd want to know at a certain point, though, to avoid infecting future partners and a possible future wife. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try the general wellness things that Dr. Stoll recommends on his site. Start with the article on How to be Healthy. I think that a lot of times in our society people think they are healthy because they have a pretty limited concept of what health is (perpetuated by conventional medicine, etc.). Even if you are as healthy as you say, the three main things for serious wellness that Dr. Stoll recommmends (skilled relaxation twice a day, whole foods diet, and aerobic exercise) certainly can't hurt you but only make you stronger! I think you might find that the skilled relaxation part will help you deal with the extra stress you're feeling right now.

Peace to you.

I am really sorry for what you are going through here, but you know, you may be worrying needlessly. Especially as the tests have come up negative. Why do you still think its herpes if the tests are negative? Was it bloodtests? Also, from what P. is saying it doesnt sound like herpes. Maybe it is just an allergic reaction. It could even be a blocked follicle that's caused an irritation. You never know.

You may be lucky, and have most likely learnt a valuable lesson about sleeping around. People BM&C about monogamy, and how humans arent meant to be that way. Well, we werent meant to get STD's either, but if you indulge in high risk behaviour, there are consequences.

Maybe your message will help convince others to act responsibly when it comes to their sexuality, and save them some heartache and pain. ITs better to be safe than sorry when it comes to these matters.

I will keep you in my prayers and hope that this will leave you soon.

What do you mean you can feel something down there? Like itching, like pain, like sensitivity?

"I used to be quite sexually active, all my friends are bar stars, most of em already have STDs..."

How do you know this? They told you they have STD's?

Hi, Richard.

All the other responses say it better than I ever could. A good doc should have no difficulty diagnosing what is going on.

P - I don't know why you think that Richard could have a fatal reaction the next time he is exposed to latex - if he is, in fact, allergic to latex. I am allergic to latex and get a rash if I wear any bras, from elastic around slacks or underwear. But, my allergist has said nothing about a FATAL reaction. Richard, why don't you consult a dermatologist?

Hi, Latex.

There is ALWAYS the chance of an anaphylactic reaction (the kind that kills you). Every time one HAS a reaction, the chances of anaphylaxis increases. These are rare but these are the facts.

Hi, Richard.

The only rashes that move around are allergic and called urticarial (hives).

Richard,

Let me just say first of all, I know absolutely nothing about STD's.

What I DO know alot about is how your body & mind are so interconnected that if you fear something this badly, or stress about it as you are, you can actually make yourself physically sick ... including a rash.

IMO, you seem to have learned your lesson. If the worse thing that happens is that you got herpes (but I'm not sure if you did, since your wore protection) ... I think Dr. Stoll says it can be controlled with a serious wellness program.

To me, it seems from reading your posts is that the female is questionable in your mind (perhaps certainly promiscious) and in your mind, you feel like you got "caught" for "being bad" or "not using more control" or "allowing yourself to get caught up in the moment".

I'm really glad you have found it not to be worth it. However, you need to get to a mental place where you KNOW that 1. You made a mistake. 2. You'll deal with the outcome, whatever it is, and Dr. Stoll can help you. 3. Stop panicking. 4. And relax.

I'm not saying it isn't serious. I'm saying that you need to realize that you are an adult. You can deal with life, whatever comes at you, whatever you bring on yourself, with mistakes and all.

You have your whole life ahead of you. Others have walked in your shoes (both with contracting STD's and without) and they are alive and fine.

By reacting the way you are it shows you are growing up (being concerned & learning from your mistakes) but you are also acting youthful (panicking).

You will learn & grow from this experience.

Stop panicking. Learn to de-stress. It will help YOU -- whether you contracted herpes or nothing.

Good luck.

Straw
