I'm Baaaaaaack!

Posted by Michele on November 11, 1998 at 00:33:22:

Dr. Stoll (Once again!)
I began skilled relaxation this week, but am having a really hard time with it! The problem is, I have a nightly cough and wheezing that settles in when I go to bed--I swear it's concurrent with when my head hits the pillow--and when I try to do my night relaxation exercises, the cough won't let me completely relax. Or if I manage to make it all the way through, I start coughing afterwards and tense up again. Is there anything I can do? Thank you again. By the way, I have converted about 6 people -- I really thank God you're around and will help all of my friends! It makes me really happy!

Dear Michele,

Listen to trish. Also, present statistics tell us that more than 75% of people with allergies are allergic to dust mites whose favorite place to live is in the mattress.

Finally, in bed is probably the worst possible place to practice skilled relaxation. Remember that going to sleep within 2 hours of doing your practice will cancel out the long term benefits of the procedure (which is the most important part of what you are trying to acomplish).

Walt

Oh geez! I didn't realize that you weren't supposed to do it before bed--guess I missed that part. I thought that doing it before bed would help me sleep! Thanks for bringing it up. Yes, I am allergic to dust mites and always got stuffed up at sleepytime, but this wheezing/coughing thing is new to me so I thought it was something different.
Thanks for your help.
