Reoccurring Tonsillitis!!!

Any advice would be appreciated.

My 3 year old (nearly 4) has been battling what seems to be reoccurring tonsillitis since last Thanksgiving. He has never had a history of allergies or continual throat or ear infections. This is all new to us! He has not taken any antibiotics for this. I have used mostly elderberry syrup, some silver, and garlic. He is usually getting better within 3 or 4 days, but then it comes back about every 2 weeks. His tonsils stay very large!! By the way, he drinks very, very little milk. What should I do to break this cycle??

gluten is another sensitivity, besides dairy, that can cause this kind of problem. Try a few weeks off wheat, oats, rye,barley malt and barley.
Grains that are ok to use during this time are rice, corn,millet, quinoa, and amaranth.
Food for life makes millet bread and brown rice bread and tortillas. Corn pasta is bright yellow, so kids often like it. Snacks can include popcorn, corn chips, and tortilla chips (tasty dipped in refried beans). Van's makes some gluten-free toaster waffles.
And there are totally grain-free snack bars like Larabars.

Thanks, Ann. I have wondered about gluten. I assumed that it wasn't gluten because he hasn't battled allergies and ear infections his whole life. Is a gluten intolerance something that can "show up" or get worse around 3 to 4 years?

food intolerances are auto-immune responses often to natural viruses, sometimes to vaccines, and can show up anytime in one's life. My eldest son didn't have obvious problems with gluten until age 7 1/2, though his staying very thin may have been an early sign that I missed.

maybe his tonsils are "bad" ...?
Not eerything is going to be fixed by the 3LS !
I was a chronically sick kid regarding tonsilitis. Once i had my tonsils removed I was much healther overall. I once had a GF who had her tonsils out in her late twenties. Almost ovenight she became much healthier overall. Not all "conventional" medecine is bad,eh?!

I had the same problem as a child. I still have the problem if I have any dairy at all.

Try eliminating all forms of dairy for awhile.It has to be total, not even a tablespoon of milk and it has to include all forms of dairy: cheese, cream, butter, ice cream, etc and it has to include eliminating dairy in any packaged foods or supplements. Real all labels. Just like the PWFD, no cheating. And it takes awhile to get it all out of the system, maybe a month.

IF a food intolerance is behind this (something VERY likely) the slightest trace of that food will cause the whole problem. You have to start with finding the slightest trace of dairy in his diet and totally eliminate it from his diet for a minimum of several months. You will know if this is a cause by then. The next thing on the list would be gluten, etc.; plenty of books at your healthfood store (or library) that would list the most common things in the order of their incidence.

You should test one thing at a time. If you get pretty far down the list, without findind the offending substance, you might start testing combinations of foodstuffs.

You are going to have to do this before he goes to school because you will lose your total control of what he eats when he can get food outside the home.

Let us know what you learn.

The tonsils are big lymph nodes, that you can see. They do the same job as the rest of your several thousand lymph nodes and that is fight infection and help the lymph system remove toxins. I agree with Ann and Walt, find out what your son is intolarent too.
