Growth in cheek and stuff ... need some suggestions ...

Posted by Sean on May 15, 2001 at 06:08:57:

For the past year I have eaten alot of penutbutter and jelly sandwiches. The non sugar kind of those. I ate them mainly for the convience of making them etc ... and they filled me up.

I am mentioning this because I havnt had a pb & j sanwich for a couple of weeks. I had a couple the other nite and after I had them I had a strong reaction. One thing thou; I was in the process of cleaning out my frig etc ... and I wasnt sure how old the penutbetter was it could have been 2-4 months old (I think I thew the new stuff away and kept the old stuff).

I had a great deal more difficult time of breathing (more then usual) and this lasted for a couple of days. But the wierd thing is I noticed the next day a growth insdie my cheek. (not sure if this was developing or if it 'appeared' overnite). The growth is kindof up neeth my teeth on my cheek and kind of like some flesh sticking out about 1 cm in length. Looks like it was a pimple on end. Kind of a little gross but I wasnt sure what it is.

any ideas?

Also any ideas why the strong reaction to penutbutter? Maybe it got bad or something? I normally havnt expericed something like that but I'm kind of thinking I'm starting to get allergic to it since I have had it often in the past year. And if I have LGS along with my symptoms who knows.

Sean

Hi, Sean.

There is a good chance that you have developed a hypersensitivity to peanuts. The thing with your cheek is likely a blocked salivary duct (pouching out from the presure behind it) and the swelling is the gland swelling up since its secretion cannot get through the duct. This would also, commonly, be caused by an allergic reaction.

You will need a clinical ecologist to figure this out for you since a conventional allergist will be worse than useless.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
