never had allergies...

Posted by ear girl on September 22, 2001 at 14:07:55:

hello dr. stoll. i've never had allergies to anything before... would a sudden allergy to dairy or wheat be
possible? i haven't changed my diet, so i don't know why i would have any problems. would the candling help
the blocked eustacian tubes you talked about? eliminating dairy would be a tough thing for me to do... are there
any alternatives? thank you aga

Hi, Eargirl.

Well, you DO now.

The most accurate way for you to find this out is to TOTALLY eliminate any trace of dairy for a couple of weeks. You think THIS is hard, just wait until you see what happens to you if you continue to miss this diagnosis.

Then, after a couple of weeks, if you do not see any progress, try it with wheat (for this you will have to see any reference in the healthfood store of grains that have cross sensitivities with wheat). If THEN, you see no difference, it would still be worth your while to do it with both at the same time (About 2% of people would have this because of the combination of both.)

Personally, I have never had any allergies either. However, my insulin requirements dropped from an average fo 150 units a day to about 20 (within a few days) when I did a trial elimination of wheat AND dairy.

Good luck!

Walt

i have been trying to eliminate dairy, and for the past week, i've noticed that the
crackling sound of water in my right ear has stopped. my ear is still blocked, but is
there a good chance that it will un-block now that the water sound is gone? also, if
my ear doesn't become un-blocked, what will happen? i have no pain or
anything... just an annoying blocked ear.
thank you for all of your advice!

Hi, Ear Girl.

"Trying" to eliminate dairy will not resolve this. Only TOTAL elimination will do it.

You must not have educated yourself with the archives. You must think that some way, some one, will save you all the work of actually having to understand this.

There are NO shortcuts.

Walt

actually, dr. stoll, i have educated myself in the archives. however, i couldn't find anything explaining WHAT will
happen if my ear doesn't become unblocked. your first reply to my problem said, "wait til you see what happens
to you if you keep missing the diagnosis." i'm sorry if i'm annoying you, but i'm away at college, so seeing a
doctor isn't easy for me right now being 5 hours away from home, especially when the health center on campus
is of no assistance to anyone except for those with a cut finger. i find your advice encouraging and extremely
helpful! i'm fully aware that i'm the only one who can do this. i don't expect a miracle worker to fly down and fix
my ear. dairy has been totally eliminated... my use of the word "trying" simply meant that i'm taking your advice
- trying out the whole dairy elimination. anyway, thank you

Thanks, Ear Girl.

I am reassured.

IF dairy is the culprit, you should be seeing results within a week or so. If you do, you should be clear in a month or so.

If there is no difference, wheat is the next thing to try.

In the meantime, using 0.05 oxymetazoline hydrochloride (in your nose--in the ear position) will help a lot if used at least every 12 hours. It would be good if you did not have to use them that way for more than a few weeks. As soon as you start seeing real help you could easily only take them at night before retiring until this is resolved.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
