SR failure

Posted by
Warnerkallus on October 19, 2002 at 15:41:02:

been doing SR religiously for 5 months twice a day. I have recently been checked with biofeedback, and found that the skin conductivity drops apprecfiably, but skin temprature decreases the whole time. What can I do??? the hospital does nto have the abilty to check Beta waves, so I am stuck. I have taught myself auto-hypnosis and Tm. I have beeen rolfed once, and am awiting further session but that did not help the SR.
not giving up, but could use some advice to further the practice.

Re: SR failure is not SR Failure...

It is a failure to perform like a trained seal.

The point of SR is not "performing on command." It is to reduce the stress day-to-day, and long term to expunge the
stored stress response. You talk like SR is some sort of gymnastic performance.
IF you don't understand this simple fact, then for SR will always be "a failure."

Hi, Warner .

Refresh my memory about what your symptoms have been.

fuzzy thikning, confusion, excima, headaches, blurred vision, muscle twtiching, depression, anxiety, severe insomnia, fatigue, and lethargy

furthermore I do not hold this out to be a "gymnastic even" I recognize the importance of daily reduction of total stored stress, and am commiited to it as a result of your board and pletier's work. I am simply not getting good [reacing the relaxation responce] at it quickly.

Hi Warnerkallus,

Have you read the description of what successful SR feels like in the glossary?

If my nervous system is very very activated, sometimes it can take up to an hour for me to drop down into relaxation. For me this is usually my first SR in the morning that I have to practice this long. I have found it is easier for me to drop into alpha later in the day.

My suggestion is that you experiment by doing your practice sometimes for a long period of time. Just make a committment to staying there until you feel your body relax. The physical sensations (and/or mental ones) will become obvious after a while.

Don't be discouraged. Sometimes it takes a while to figure all of this out and for the body to get used to the new habit of relaxation.

Best wishes,
Happygal

Warner, wasn't that you in the heart/pulse thread some days ago? If so I wonder if you have tried the magnesium yet and if you have noticed any difference in your symptoms?

best to you

Thanks, Warner.

It sounds to me like you have a brain chemistry problem that is related to your storage of stress-effect. References that might help would be the brain chemsitry archives and the "Brain Allergies" book by Dr Philpott (see your library).

Keeping up the SR you are doing will help any brain chemistry therapy work better.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
