depression and anxiety

My primary care physician said that the same chemical abnormality responsible for depression was also responsible for anxiety and that I might consider treating anxiety with and antidepressant. I don't think that argument necessarily holds water because although I have a moderate level of anxiety, I'm not depressed.

I have a virtually stress free lifestyle. Heck, I promote vacation rental houses on the internet and frequent health chat boards.

Anti-Depressants raise your Seretonin levels and Seretonin is a calming neuro-transmitter. That's why they use Anti-Depressants to treat Anxiety. However, these medications have terrible side effects.

Your right Jeff...GABA, Taurine, Glycene, L-Theanine, L-Tryptophan, 5 HTP(L-Tryptophan),...these are all calming aminos! Calcium and Magnesium are calming minerals.

Hi,

Things I have read suggest GABA could be quite dangerous to take because it is responsible for transmitting messages and an excess of GABA could trigger seizures due to over activity in the message sending process. Excess GABA has been found in the brains of epileptics

Glycine
Inositol
GABA5-HTP

L-Theanine is an amino acid worth looking into

Cal/Mag and B vitamins DEFINITELY! But vitamin C,...I don't know if that is going to do much for anxiety. Maybe in combination with the other nutrients it would, but alone, probably not. Thanks!
