Here is Dr. Kim's entry in the Glossary:

Dr. Kim - Dr. Kim Shunkwiler
A chiropractor trained in and who practices: Neural Organization Technique (N.O.T.), Applied Kinesiology, Sacral/Occipital Technique, Meridian Therapy, Craniopathy, Homeopathy, and applied Clinical Nutrition. Practices in Westland, MI a western suburb of Detroit (734) 728-5533.

I have learned that you usually donít hurt where you hurt and that most of what ails us is, in a way, self-inflicted. Poor choices of diet is the number one culprit. The second is the belief that health comes from outside the body. The ultimate determinant is the patient's desire to do what he has to do to get better.

Hope this helps!

In my office we call MDs RDs - Real Doctors. ;-) Several times a week a patient will start off a sentence by saying: "My real doctor said......."

I used to pinch myself to see if I were still real, but now, I just accept the fact that I am.

Actually, anwering your question, will allow me to explain a basic concept of wellness care.

Modern medicine has a real hang-up when it comes to "naming things". Test after test is given to be able to develop a set of symptoms that will fit into the parameters of a named condition. I had a patient one time who had headaches. (she came to me for her low back pain and never mentioned her headaches because, in her mind, chiropractors only 'worked' on low back pain). She went for test after test until one day she came into the office very relieved that they had finally discovered what she had. I asked her what it was, and with a great sense of triumphant relief, she said: I have..(pause, sigh)"Cephalgia". (look it up). Her headaches went away after we corrected the C1/C2 fixation she had.

In chiropractic and alternative care we realize that symptoms are warning lights to underlying problems. Instead of taping over or spraying out the light, we try to find the actual cause of the problem. Sometimes this is easier than other times.

Common sense tells me that, if you can identify and correct problems and behaviors that are creating dis-ease (not disease), you will be going a long way to achieving wellness. The odd thing is that, these problems and behaviors that create a certain condition in one person, can create a totally different condition in another person.

Now concerning your anxiety/agoraphobia and whether SR can get rid of them, I don't know. But, I do know that you will be much healthier if you can do it. You have everything to gain by developing a wellness lifestyle and nothing to lose. Any modality that will help you overcome these conditions will work better on a health and receptive body.

I hope Dr. Stoll will chime in here with his views on your particular condition.

Best wishes for your recovery.

Thanks, Dr Kim!

You have said it in more detail than I would have---having said it so many times before. As you know well, it is not that these approaches do not work but will the patient DO them?!

We MDs have done a marvelous job (over the past 100 years)of brainwashing the public into thinking that OUR way of thinking is the only way TO think. This is the major cause of the "disease-care crisis" in which this country finds itself today.

People are partly to blame for this since it is intensely painful for us to have to think, so long as we believe we can pay someone else to do it for us (in this case the MDs).

We all, including myself, would prefer to have a magic pill and NOT have to work on our own wellness. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. We ARE, personally and individually, responsible for our own wellness. The bodymind Mother Nature gave us is still the most powerful tool we have against illness. It is up to us to maintain ourselves at least as well as we do our cars.

EVEN IF SR, ALONE, DID NOT TOTALLY RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM IN 6-12 MONTHS, THE INDIVIDUAL WOULD BE SO MUCH HEALTHIER BY THEN THAT ANY "MOPPING UP" THAT MIGHT NEED TO BE DONE WOULD WORK MUCH EASIER.

Hi Terri,
I just want to say that I myself had a lot of trouble with anxiety and agoraphobia in my early twenties, so much so that I could not drive and I had to quit my job. I found great help through the midwest center for panic and anxiety disorders. I ordered their tape series Attacking Anxiety with Linda Bassett. It really worked for me and I completely overcame my anxiety within 6 months and started driving again and working. It was a miracle for me! You may want to look it up

I live in Indiana. Where is it located and can I get the tapes that were mentioned too? I think by Linda Bassett.
