Dear Dr. Stoll
I have suffer with a right armpit cyst for nearly four years. The cyst would come and go. Finally I was advised by a surgeon to have it removed. Last december I had the procedure done and I am still suffering with pain under arm pit and breast area, intense swelling, numbness from under arm pit toward my fingers. It is very difficult for me to use my right hand, even writing is a problem. The incision made is very large and stems from front to back of the arm pit. I had an ultra sound four months after surgery to see it their were any blood clots around my heart area. At that time there were none . It's still puzzles me and other why the symptoms are still there. I have search to find answers and have came up empty. Any suggestions as to what happen and what can be done now.
Thank You

Pam,
Do you use antiperspirant deodorants?

There were several times anti-perspirant/deodorant were used before surgery, the roll on kind. The surgeon suggested that I now use aerosol anti-perspirant/deodorant. Is it suggested that all the problems I now have is caused by what type deodorant I am using?

Hi, Pam.
In my opinion, your surgeon's suggestion that you switch to aerosol anti-perspirants reveals infinite depths of ignorance for a medical professional.
Tell me what you understand about how any anti-perspirant works. If you are not sure, just go to the anti-perspirant archives. This is almost certainly the cause of your problem.
One would almost have to think that the surgeon was deliberately creating more work for himself!
Let us know what you learn.
