Combining SR with special "fragrance"

Hi Everybody!

This is something I've not seen mentioned on this BB: I'd first heard about it about 8 months ago when Annie Wenz was a guest on the David Essell radio program. (Until then I'd never heard of her.) She is a registered nurse as well as a very gifted singer, musician, songwriter, etc.

According to her, she came upon the idea to combine relaxation/meditation with specially selected essential oils, while trying to help seriously ill people she worked with, relax. (Of course it must be a fragrance you love and it must be absolutely non allergenic...so no perfume, just essential oils are considered).

In time you will associate that special fragrance with relaxation and soon just the fragrance itself will help you relax. The oil can be placed on the skin. Or, by carrying a specially scented handkerchief or scarf with you you would have an "instant" way to get into your relaxation mode, if needed. On the insert to her cassette she says: "A great deal of research has been done regarding our sense of smell, and its powerful ability to stimulate recall."

I was soo intrigued by this idea that I ordered her cassette which is called: Annie Wenz-Peaceful Waters cassette and Aroma Oil.

The music and meditation are beautiful beyond words. There was only one catch - I did not like the essential oil that came with it...it was too musky for me. So I decided to look for somethng more suitable. Then we moved and put the whole thing on hold. Mine will probably be lavender or something like that.

BTW when my cassette arrived, Annie had included a beautiful hand-written note thanking me for the order. This woman is VERY busy in un-ordinary ways! Go to her website and check it out

Best wishes

Hi Rosemarie,

This is one of the concepts behind Aromatherapy. When I was seeing my aromatherapist a few years ago, I was not yet aware of SR and the alpha/theta thing. How I wish I had been! She based her oil mixture choices on my ayuvedic "type" and test each one with me to see if I liked it. She was an excellent masseuse and our sessions were always wonderfully relaxing. Maybe I should go again...

I also learned that aromatherapy can help with almost any medical treatment - chemotherapy patients were able to use less chemo when they were trained with essential oils!

It's a fascinating subject...
enjoy!

Re: Combining SR with special "fragrance" AS EPILEPSY THERAPY

There's some incredible research (done by Tim Betts at Seizure Clinic & Epilepsy Liason Service, Birmingham Univ, Queen Elizabeth Psychiatric Hosp, Mindelsohn Way, Birmingham, B15 2QZ. U.K)with epileptics whose seizures couldn't be controlled with any medication, but who were able to control their seizures through just this method. Amazing thing is that same research was published in 1957 by R. Efron (The Conditioned Inhibition of Uncinate Fits. Brain:80:251-261) but was ignored in favor of drugs!

Thanks, Rosemarie!

This is a varient of Aromatherapy which we have discussed enough on this BB to have an archive about.

Thanks for bringing it up. This "conditioned response" is like the old classic one by Pavlov and the salivating dogs. Works well and at least would be a helpful adjunct since the olfactory lobes are the most primitive and basic in the brain.

Which archive is it? I looked in the aromatherapy archive and did not find "SR" or "skilled".

Thanks!

I'm familiar with aromatherapy, but it was mainly the idea of carrying a scented hanky or scarf around with me that caught my attention. A great way to help one relax in situations where it isn't possible to lie down and do the whole thing, you know...

The responses so far have been interesting especially about epilepsy. Hope it will help some more people.

Thanks, Ann.

Just one more indication of what I have been saying for years on this BB: "The conventional medical monopoly is only interesterd in remedies that they can control via the prescription pad and those that make a lot of money for the "system". Aromatherapy DEFINITELY does not fall under the control of the AMA.

Only a knowledgable and aroused public will ever stop them from doing their unconscionable power grabs. "Those with power will NEVER voluntarily give it up!"

It has been known for more than 20 years that epileptic seizures and hemophiliac bleeding episodes can be reliably aborted by skilled relaxation training. In the '70s, the Hemophiliac Society even flooded the public with a little pamphlet (of which I gave out thousands) documenting this effect. Why isn't THIS common knowledge???

Dear RocketHealer Jim,

I guess this is one of the pitfalls of our new effort to only archive those things that I think are worth while for permanent storage. My note is to Bill since he has to do the archiving. I intended, in this case, for him to archive this note in BOTH the SR and the Aromatherapy archives.

Making sense? Do you have any other ideas as to how we could do this without confusing people still more?

Namaste`

Walt
