Could Advil, like Tynol, be harmful for the
body if used often for arthritis pain?

You betcha. If you use nsaids like Ibuprofen for long periods of time, they'll eventually tear up the lining of your stomach, at least. My mother-in-law took 800mg four times a day for her Osteoarthritis and said that after a while, her head started to feel goofy. Like she couldn't concentrate. She decided that it would be safer to go the nutritional route.

I think it would be better to try to fix the
problem than block the pain as the problem gets
worse.

Hi C-
On this great health info board, you see much reference to "Leaky Gut Syndrome."(LGS) It's also called "Intestinal Permeability."
Arthritis has been shown in definitive studies to arise BECAUSE of LGS. NSAIDS, such as Advil, are toxins to the body that are normally processed out by the liver. Overuse of Advil-type pain relievers causes LGS. Do you see the painful irony here?
Fix the LGS first and learn pain coping skills. There are also specific diet recommendations and anti-inflammatory supplements that can help. Do an internet search on arthritis. Poisoning yourself and creating more autoimmunity to relieve the pain just doesn't seem worth it, does it?

Thanks, Talissa.
If there were no intestinal permeability we would all be dead. LGS is properly termed "intestinal hyperpermeability". NSAIDS have been known, for years, to pathologically increase intestinal permeability.

Dr. S,
Oops...meant to write ABNORMAL intestinal permeability, hyperpermeability--where some of the lgr cells get absorbed and they shouldn't; while some of the smaller cells(like nutrients), which normally get through the barrier into the small intestine wall, don't. Right?
I was in a rush. Also should have said that overuse of NSAIDS is ONE of the many causes of LGS.
Thanks for the correction(you weren't supposed to notice:)
