TESTING FOODS AFTER E-DIET ADVERSE REACTION

Dr. Stoll,

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and have completed the Elimination Diet. I'm on Day 6 of testing foods after completing the E-Diet. This morning of Day 6 I have intense stiffness in my wrists. It's a scary feeling when I havn't felt it in so long. I'm not sure what to do. According to the pulse tests on the foods I ate yesterday, I shouldn't be having an adverse reaction but I am and I felt splendid yesterday. Yesterday, Day 5, I ate in descending order through out the day the following: Uva Ursi which is a tincture used for urinary tract infection, pork (didn't have enough fat on it), artichoke, pinto beans (with lamb & an apple), rice cake & almond butter. The lamb, apple, rice cake and almond butter had been previously tested, and I know rice is not a H-G item but I'm trying to have a bowel movement and thought a rice cake might help. I must admit that I tasted a bit of a friend's fish (sand dab lightly battered, deep fried and seasoned with lots of black pepper) impulsively.

This feels like a delayed reaction from yesterday. I don't know if I should test foods today or not. My intuition says take it easy but my mind says I only have limited days to test so I better get going. I'm not sure which food is the culprit since I passed the pulse test on all of them, although I do sometimes miss the 2 hour test but only if the 1/2 hour and hour pulse test pass. In your experience, could it be the pepper on the fish I nibbled on? Should I test new foods today? Which food is the offending one given what I ate?

Thank you so much

Francisca

Pulse testing is not part of the ediet protocol...

and it seems that it doesn't work, as evidenced by your reaction. Your pulse may not change at all even if you do eat an offending food. They all react differently.

It could be ANY food you ate yesterday that you didn't previously test.

It could be either the batter (wheat) from the fish and certainly could be the pepper, AND it could even be the oil. It's best to control your impulses while you are testing!

Do not try a new food until you feel better again. If you do, it will be too hard to tell if you have another reaction or it's the same one. It will be more of a problem to sift through that mess of confusing info than it will to just wait it out with safe foods until your wrists calm down.

I suggest that when they do calm down, test the pork as your new food for breakfast, then two other foods that you didn't eat today for lunch and dinner. Then, the next day, test the artichoke, and the following day the pinto beans. That way you can narrow it down without recreating today's confusion.

Hang in there...sounds like you are mostly on the right track...now if you can just quit sneaking tastes of your friends' food!

Hi, Francisca.

Congratulations on a good start!

Listen to Labrat. I agree with your intuition of a delayed reaction.

Actually the pepper might have been the trigger. You know of the solanine/nightshade connection.? Most times there are many contributing causes to something like RA. Best results come when as many of them as possible are identified.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
