I saw your inspiring posting and wanted to ask you two questions (hoping you will see this). First, did you use anything like L-glutamine or Primal Defense in your healing ? Second, on your web page you seem to mention 1 person with another type of arthritis that you talk to that seems to be getting better. If you are hearing from others that use this approach could you share some of the feedback you are getting and the level of progress these others may be making ? Thanks

Hi Patrick - I did use L-Glutamine for quite some time. I probably would have considered something like Primal Defense as well, but I either was not aware of it or it may not have been available at the time.
Recently Tom, who has OA, has posted several times on this board about his improvements over a several month timeframe using this approach. Most of the people I hear from move on to Robert McFerran or a local practitioner after they contact me (as they should - I'm just a layman and can only share my experience), so I often don't hear about progress over an extended period of time.
Typically most responses to me come during the first month or so when they are doing Mansfield's elimination diet. Many are amazed that much of their pain and symptoms go away after only a week of diet change. Many also backslide as they realize they have to make permanent lifestyle changes. It's tougher on some than others.
Without naming names, I can give you a few examples. There is a lady in Texas that has been following this approach for a little over a year. She started on this method early in her RA disease process when she discovered that eating raw foods helped her. She still has some joint damage, but doesn't have to take any medication. Her blood test results are at normal levels.
Several months ago I heard from a man who had just moved to Illinois. He talked about how he had gotten recommendations from the Texas lady and had implemented only diet changes. Even so, he was starting triathlon training after having been nearly disabled previously.
There is another lady in the northeast that has been going on 20 mile hikes 1.5 years after starting this. Her RA appears to be under control.
There is a woman in Ohio who was off all medications within a 3 month timeframe. I heard from her after 6 months when she noted her RA symptoms were returning. She was sheepish in admitting that she had "been eating like everyone else." The last I knew, she was preparing to give this another try.
There is a lady in Canada that is still taking medication, but has lost about 50 lbs and is doing much better, both physically and mentally. Her symptoms are much less these days and her activity levels have increased.
More recently, there is a 71 year old man in Belgium that is having great results from his elimination diet.
There are obviously variations in how people respond to this type of treatment, and some still deal with joint damage (maybe stem cells can help here one of these days?).
Candida/parasite elimination is a problem for many as diet changes alone often will not take care of the problem. Some have a hard time with relaxation techniques.
Dr. Stoll is telling it like it is. The ultimate proof is in trying this..Joseph

That was a great posting with much encouraging information, I hope that Dr Stoll keeps it with all the other arthritis postings on this BB.

What is the Mansfield elimination diet?

There is an English physician by the name of John Mansfield that has had quite a bit of success in treating arthritis. As part of his protocol, he uses an elimination diet of foods that he has determined (from experience with his patients) have little potential for causing immune system reactions. This is the e-diet I used for my RA. I had huge withdrawal symptoms during this, but it was the turning point for me in determining that this approach had validity.
Check out the link below for a description of this by Robert McFerran elsewhere on this site. Adding foods back is the toughest part in my view as it can get confusing if you are not careful. Sorry I wasn't clearer..

Thanks for the info...I thought you had said you used McFerran's diet so when you mentioned the other I got confused. Will go to the site and check it out.
