I get the very very best results from juicing and was wondering if you have too.
And maybe what your favorite recipes are
I love apples juiced with celery or ginger added
I dont see juicing mentioned a lot here and was wondering why

Hi Lovebird,
I do alot of juicing. I found a combination I really love. I juice carrots, celery, apples and beets together. First I would muscle test them all before using them. Sometimes I use spinach if my stomach needs attention. I use the spinach with carrots. I tried spinach, and greens, ICK....
It was difficult to drink the green juice...There are some good books on juicing at the health food stores. They give you combinations to use for different ailments. I found that when I used just fruits, it through my metabelism off.
But the fruits are really good for cleansing.
Aeiro Pavola has a good book on juicing.
Hope this has helped you out some

Wow
Sounds like a great book
You know, if I eat something that doesn't agree with me, if I juice, I am instantly fine.
I like that it goes right into your system.
I need to make a chart so I remember all the good things to do.
I will get that book and thanks Barb.....

Hi Lovebird,
My problem is when I eat certain foods that I'm allergic to, I start itching within a few minutes from the time I ate it. Thats usually how I can tell I'm allergic.
Have a good day!

I just started juicing last week, and have had terrible gas from it. Does that go away, or is there something I'm not doing correctly. Thanks.

Hi Joanie,
I don't have a problem with gas and juicing. So I dont know an answer for you. My body is so use to veggies now.
I remember having an adjustment to just eating lots of vegtables. I wonder if you took enzymes with the juicing if it would help your body digest better?
HY is very helpful in this area.

Another trick to use to help absorb the juices more easily and prevent problems, is to swish the juice around in your mouth before swallowing. Just for a few seconds. This stimulates the saliva and helps the body digest the juice more easily and break it down.

Here's a recipe I use often
Zuchini
Cucumber
Parsely
Ginger
Small amount of carrots
a few grapes (for taste)
1 tbsp raw cream
1 tsp raw honey (optional)
It takes some getting used to but the cream helps absorb more of the vitamin A. You can also add some whey protein/L-glutamine for extra protein. It's good to balance the juice with protein and fat if possible. The cream and whey would do that well.
Many people juice loads of carrots and apples. Although these are the most tasty, they also raise blood sugar the greatest. Here's another recipe that's easier to digest:
Celery
Parsely
Cucumber
Ginger
Small amount of carrots
a few grapes (concord)
1 tbsp raw cream
1 tbsp Perfect Food

To avoid bloating, gas, and other problems from too much juice, try the following:
1. Start with only a small amount of juice and water it down. Slowly increase the juice every few days until you reach 16-32oz per day. Also, little by little, add some of the pulp back for extra fiber until you are putting back about 25% of the pulp into the juice
2. Start with the easies-to-digest vegetables first:
a. Carrot
b. Cucumber
c. Romaine Lettuce
d. Small amounts of ginger and parsely
Kale, bitter greens, and other dark leafy vegetables are often the most difficult to digest.
Balance your juice with protein and fat by adding raw cream, taking cod or fish oil, and by adding a protein powder like whey or goat milk protein. This will help stablize blood sugar. A greenfood supplement can be used as well. There are many on the market. I find that Perfect Food and Green Vibrance are easy to digest. I prefer Perfect Food because there are no filler ingredients like apple pectin or Lecithin. I hope this helps

What significance is the cream? Or could you just take cod liver tablets instead. I am allergic to dairy, but still enjoy my organic juices every once in a while.
Thanks

I really like juicing best of all and lost100 pounds that way.
Do you do a smoothie in the AM?
It goes straight into the blood right? And feels so good fast.
I am trying to get rid of RA and stiffness of OA.
A friend believes you don't need supplements by the truck load if you juice correctly.
If you were getting rid of RA what would you do?

Hi HY,
Your so right about the kale and the green bitter veggies. I juiced them, but couldnt drink them. that must mean they are good for you....UGH......
I want to go on a long juice fast. But I need to add a protein drink. After 7 days on juice I get brain fog really bad. Have any suggestions for long term juice fasting?

I would recommend that you use either Goatein or a high-quality whey protein powder. In addition, I would take some extra L-glutamine as it acts like a protein sparer so that you won't digest your own tissues on the fast. To balance out the protein, take some fish, cod-liver oil or raw egg yolk with the juice as it will balance out the protein and carbs and will ALSO help digest the calcium and other fat-soluble vitamins in the juice. That would be your best bet. I wouldn't fast longer than 5-7 days unless you are an expert

If I were trying to get rid of RA, I would work on healing the most likely cause which is LGS. RA would require an elimination diet to uncover food sensitivities, SR to heal the LGS, and possibly some microbial or probiotic intervention for serious dysbiosis. As far as supplements go, there are a few that act as immune modulators ---Transfer Factors, Colostrum, Beta 1,3 1,6 glucan, and others. I would also take Type 2 collagen and glucosamine for joint damage.

It doesn't have to be cream. Fish oil, cod liver oil or egg yolk would do as well. Vegetable juices contain fat-soluble vitamins such as Vitamins A and K that are only absorbed in the presence of fat. If you are taking the cod-liver oil with the juice, this will also help you absorb your calcium better. Juicing this way can help osteoporosis. Vitamins K and D contribute to the formation of strong bones. They can even help prevent caclium from being deposited in arteries. hope that helps

Yes. I use them from time to time. Carrots and beets taste so good because they are high in sugar. If one has diabetes, is overweight, has high cholesterol or triglycerices, one should limit or avoid carrot and beet juice. Otherwise, use them in moderation

Thanks HY.
I wasnt sure if you had seen my question or not. Mixing the egg yolk and juice sounds pretty awful though. If I was to use cod liver oil, would the capsules work as well. Would I just take them before the juice or after?
Thanks for these great tips. I never realized you had to have some fat content to absorb the nutrients. It might be just the trick......

The Cod-Liver oil capsules are fine. You take them WITH the juice.
The egg yolk really doesn't taste all that bad but the cod-liver oil is a better option because the vitamin D helps to absorb the calcium from the juice.

Hi HY
What are some good juices for improving the skin? I do occasionally have carrot, celery, ginger, grapefruit, but sometimes find the carrots a little too sweet. I am going to try spinach in my juice too. That is meant to be good for the digestion right?
I am going to try the egg in the juice. It doesnt sound very appealing, but I am willing to give it a go. Do you just mix one egg into the juice? Oh, also, if you cant have cream in your juice, would soy milk do the job just as well?
Thanks HY

As far as the skin goes, any food high in vitamin A will benefit the skin---leafy greens, carrots (high in sugar like you said).
The fat in the egg will help absorb the vitamin A for you. without fat, most of that vitamin A is wasted. You could take out the juice, put it in the blender with the egg yolk, and blend for a moment. Don't use the egg white, it has a compound called advin that binds to biotin and renders it usesless. Just use the yolk.
Don't use soy milk. first off, soy milk tends to be low in fat. Secondly, unless fermented, soy only causes bodily harm. Feel free to use tempeh, and miso but forgo the soy milk, soy protein powders and so forth.

I had another brainwave. ;-)
I have been adding two raw egg yolks to my juice. Not too bad until you get to bottom of the glass and find some stringy globules. ;-( But anyway, things are definitely on the up and up as far as health goes. I love those juices!
Well here is that brainwave. I was thinking that I could take the cod liver oil capsules(2) as well as egg yolks to increase assimilation of nutrients from juice.
HY, yay or nay????
