Like Rob said, we know it's not good for you...and I don't think it's a "secret"
I don't really trust anything artificial not to have the capability of damaging you.
And some things that are "claimed" to be natural (the rules on that aren't strict enough) as well.
I think it would be wise to know exactly what you are consuming, and the possible effects of doing so.

Hi Michele 2,
I don't eat any chemical sweetners, only stevia, which is an herb.
Best wishes,
Jan

I heard this story a while back ... I don't remember from where but I'm pretty sure it was on TV .. one of those 20/20 type shows.
A man died of some form of poisoning -- he was in his early 30's I believe .. a runner .. very healthy. Dropped dead one day to everybody's surprise.
Autopsy showed poison in his system. His wife was arrested.
Come to find out - he was drinking liters and liters (12 packs at a time ) of Diet Coke every day.
They concluded it was the aspertame that killed him -- it mimicks some kind of poison when we get too much in our system.
*I* am a die-hard Caffeine Free Diet Coke drinker -- I have cut way back and know I shouldn't drink it but the stuff really is addictive.
Most every food and drink out there that's supposed to be 'good for you' has aspertame in it.

I think this assumption is a bit dangerous. Everybody might know soft drinks are less healthy than water, but do they specifically know about the harms of aspartame? I think if everyone really knew, it wouldn't be used. I recommended my Dad switch from sweetener (aspartame) to honey on his cereal. He has psoriasis, and since then it has improved. Educating people who want to learn is important :-) They certainly won't hear this information from the TV.

Apparently food makers are hiding Splenda in stuff. I grabbed a package of 100% whole wheat English muffins off the store shelf the other day. Hubby has been eating muffins for breakfast once in a while, so I decided to get him some whole-r grain ones. When I got home, I was shocked to see they contain sucralose! Ick. I was in a rush to get home, so hadn't taken the time to read the ingredient label in the store.

It's interesting though about the possible correlation of aspartame and autism or aspartame and fibromyalgia.
Who knows these days. I swear, it's all one big crap shoot!

True Michele,
Poisons in our food, Poisons to make us "better" when we get sick, on top of stress....
No wonder so many people get digestive problems.
