Hi Walt,
It's been a trying few days for me. My Mom (almost 77) was admitted to the hospital last Thursday with shortness of breath upon exertion and a pressure on the side of her neck. Her BP was 210/123, so was immediately put on IV's of nitro and Heparin. Long story short, she has an artery to her left kidney 100% blocked and the artery to her right kidney 90% blocked. Surprising because she had no symptoms of that. Anyway, they will be doing an angioplasty today to unblock the right kidney. They feel sure that she also has blockages in her heart, but the kidneys are more critical right now, and if they treat the heart, the kidneys will be lost, so the renal Dr. told me.
My question is, since she has so much blockage right now, do you feel that the Coumadin would benefit her short term, and if so, is there an oral chelation supplement that you would recommend that she could take in addition to it? I know IV chelation would be better, but there is no way we can take her for treatments right now. She's already on a low salt/low fat diet, and she has a rebounder that I will insist she use when she's up to it.
Also, she has a long history of hypertension which has been under control with medication, but the doc told me that the hypertension is one of the causes of the blockages, and that the blockages caused the BP to spike like it did. Correct?
Thanks Walt,
Joanie

Just as a follow up, she did have the angioplasty and a stent was placed in the one artery and is now open. They will check her kidney function today and if it has improved, they will release her.
BTW, I have read all the archives on this.

Hi, Joanie.
I think your mom is in good hands. At this stage there was no choice but to do what she did.
You have to listen to the surgeons about the coumadin.
When she is stabilized is when you need to get her chelated.
Statistically, arteries that have had stents inserted close up faster following the surgery than they were closing before the surgery. She has a few months to a few years of respite here from the surgery but this WILL likely recur without doing something about her athereosclerosis tendency.
Let us know how she does.
Hope this helps.
Walt

Thanks Walt. Yes, it helps to know that we're doing the right things. Her kidney function is greatly improved, so she's home with me now, and finally getting some rest. Thanks for caring.
Namaste`
