I looked around some in the Healthcomm International site (linked below and in the Glossary) with regard to Functional Medicine Update. After clicking around a LOT, I finally found FMU on the page:
http://sales.fxmed.com/sales-fxmed-com/fmu.chk
There it is described as a monthly audio cassette or quarterly digital transcript, publication that reports and analyzes preventive and nutritional medicine. Dr. Bland and his professional staff review hundreds of medical journals, then Dr. Bland synthesizes and presents the most clinically relevant, leading-edge information.
Clinician of the Month interview, sharing the insights, experiences, challenges, and successes of practitioners and researchers in clinical nutrition.
Hot Breaking News keeps listeners on the cutting edge of advancements in nutritional medicine, summarizing the findings published each month in medical journals.
Clinical Focus highlights integrated therapies applicable to specific problems commonly seen in a clinician’s practice.
I see the subscription ($225/yr.) offered, but nothing about offering individual tapes or transcripts on specific diseases or treatments, as I think I remember seeing you recommend.
Is this yearly subscription what you have been recommending to people, or am I confused somewhere.
Seems to me that mostly Drs. (if indeed, even they) would want to subscribe to this - not laypeople.
Thanks for clarifying this for the Glossary and the benefit of others here.

Dear RocketHealer Jim.
This IS the one. The monthly 90 minute tape is accompanied by a 2 page summary of what is on the tape and where. It also has a bibliography that corresponds to what is on the tape.
Although it is pitched toward professionals, there is plenty for any highschool graduate to learn and how to get more specific information for any particular problem they might be interested in.
FMU used to do a year-end summary of all the subjects covered that year and the month it was covered. They stopped that a few years ago. To my mind that was a big mistake and I hope they will eventually realize that.
No one yet has come back to the BB and said that they could not get them to sort out some of the articles about any specific subject. All I have tried to do is tell people which month and year and hope that they could get that from healthcomm. I have to go through a year or so of tapes to find any subject I offer each time. I sort of can rememeber when but------
A number of BB participants have subscribed to this service and I have, yet, to have one who said they were sorry. With this service, the names and phone numbers of researchers are included and subscribers are encouraged to call and speak to them personally.
I cannot think of a better way for people to be on the cutting edge of whatever THEIR condition of interest might be. Think of Autism. Schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, LGS, C-RS, allergies, headaches, arthritis, etc., etc. What is it worth to know better than your doc, how to get rid of, delay the onset of, or simply improve the effectiveness of any conventional treatment one is getting?
Hope this helps.

I found this thread, Dr. Stoll. Does this mean if I subscribe to this site, or service, that I will get the cutting edge information on like Autism, or how nutrition can help behavior (my areas of interest).

Yes, Straw, that it does!
As a matter of fact, I think you can get back issues. It just so happens that in 1999 there was a flurry of new research about autism (and associated neurological deficits in children) and the tapes concentrated on that especially in May, June, July and even more in August and September.
Since so many researchers seem to be closing in on Autism's cause and options for management, I suspect that there will be even more in the coming year.
Let us know what you think and what you learn.
