Hi there, I wonder if someone could advise me? I went to see a homeopathic specialist about some bruises that have appeared on my legs recently (11 in total). I mentioned that most of them seem to go on their own but that there are two on my right leg, which have not gone in the last month. In fact one of the two has grown larger in size and they appear to have quite a hard nodule underneath them, and that they are tender to the touch. He recommended a course of anti-imflamatories and that I speak to my doctor about the oral contraception I am on (Cilest). When I saw my doctor this morning he said he didn't think it had anything to do with the pill I'm on that it looks as though I might have Erythema Nodosum, but that he did not want to worry me without at least first taking some blood test which I have booked in for. My question is if this is the case, how is it treated and do you think the contraceptive pill I'm on could be something to do with it, I have been taking it for about 13yrs for a hormonal imbalance. I look forward to any replies, thanking you in advance, Worried-bruiser!

Hi, Ziggy.
Have you yet looked up the diagnosis in the library? Your reference librarian can help you.
This is one of the more serious of the autoimmune conditions--an extention of severe hives.
Your BC pill could easily be the problem. Have you looked it up in the PDR (same reference librarian)?
Reversing autoimmunity is a job but not impossible. See the autoimmune archives and get started on wellness.

When I had Erythema Nodosum I did not have bruising. I had these raised, blood filled welt looking things down around my ankles. They hurt to even hold a finger within an inch! I am sure there are different varieties of Erythema Nodosum, so I would not rule it out. I was in Hawaii on vacation when these sores cropped up so I didn't receive the care I thought I should have. I was never given any medication and they went away after a while, although I do still have a scar from one spot, and that was 4 years ago. Walt's post about the seriousness of this autoimmune problem does concern me a bit. I was told I got it from having Crohns Disease, not from my birth control pills. But, looking back, I did switch pills around that same time........maybe you should think about switching? I hope that helps a little.

Hi, Jody.
Sounds like you had erythema multiforme instead of the nodosum. Same basic mechanism but a different presentation.

Hi there I wrote regarding the possibility of Erythema Nodusom... I've now had my blood results back and I've been told I have slight anemia, and that my B12 is also low I have started to take supplements but my bruises/lumps have become alot larger in size. There doesn't seem to be any better changes in fact I now have two new ones to add to my collection! Any other ideas?

I'd run from that doctor. Read this article:

Hi, Ziggy.
EN is a very deep autoimmune condition.
Your best over all approach would be serious wellness.
For now, just taking at least 3 grams of bioflavinoids in divided doses, every day, would help your spots be less and last a shorter length of time.

Hello Dr. Stoll, well my second set of blood results came back and the only thing that stood out was my levels of B12 being so low, I have now been put onto an injection for this three times a week for two weeks and then once every three months thereafter. After having had another consultation with my doctor, and having discussed signs in my general health, ie. bowel movements and other illnesses she now wants me to go and have a gastro. intestinal check for Chron's possibility? I have noticed blood in my stoll on occasions but was previously told by a different doctor that it was most likely from a smal tear however I did mention that I have also in the past suffered from dhiorrea(not sure if I spelt that right) anyway I seem to have have found that it seems to be linked with milk, because after cutting that out of my diet, well I can't even remember the last time I had a bout of it, so that's good news! Anyway my question this time around is, I had my first injection of B12 this morning and when I went to the toilet this evening I was worried because I noticed blood as well as (and this is very weird) a sort of mucus type substance attached to the actual stool, could this be something to do with the injection? Oh one amazing thing the lumps on my legs have started to go down today!!! Looking forward to your reply, a slightly less worried, Ziggy.

Thanks, Ziggy.
Sounds like you have the most common cause of autoimmune conditions: LGS.
