Friends,
All of you longtimers have noted that, for the last 10 years, this website has promoted the idea that all autoimmune and chronic conditions have common causes. Genetics determines which diagnosis will show up but the causes are the same.
Now a major article in Science News, volume 165, pages 216-217, April 3, 2004 issue: "All Roads Lead to Runx" is finally documenting this intuitive conclusion that many of us have had for years.

But what happens when the person falls under my category where the RIA takes over? Are we hopeless?

Yeah, Sean, but I am not an expert as to how to do that. it would probably be something like sciencenews.com
If you put the question to the BB participants, we might both learn how to do it.

Steven,
Serious wellness cannot possibly harm and ALWAYS helps.

It's interesting how autoimmune diseases seem to run so strongly in families...perhaps some are more prone genetically to go haywire due to stress, improper diet, etc.
The family I come from has a really bad problem with autoimmune diseases.
I read once that they think Vitamin D may play a role in autoimmune disease - specifically the lack of adequate Vitamin D. Most of our ancestors were outdoors much of the time, getting lots of sun exposure and therefore Vitamin D which they would store up until winter, then use. I can't remember what I read exactly, but they said that supplements don't work quite as well to keep you healthy as Vitamin D from the sun. I know we all have to worry about skin cancer, etc. but I think we do need some exposure to sunlight to be healthy - 10-15 minutes a day maybe, without sunscreen.
Here's one link if anyone is interested in learning more about the role of Vitamin D (via sun exposure) in health...

There isn't a section marked autoimmune disease in the archives, or one for rheumatoid arthritis, and I was wondering if you have some testimonials from people who got better using wellness.
I've read news clips about how Omega-3 oils help lupus sufferers regain their health, and how Vitamin D deficiencies are linked to these diseases, etc. so I think autoimmune diseases must have a very strong link to diet, so changing the diet for the better could reduce or eliminate the symptoms. I'm just not sure how long the process takes or what to expect along the way.
Thank you very much.

Then why have I turned into an agoraphobic, anxiety attack having, symptoms producing wreck? It's been many months now. What about all the info I found about some people, like me, who have this sort of reaction to relaxation and to stay away from doing it alone. Or the contraindictions even in the workbook.
That sort of broad statement is one of the things that got me in this drowning boat I am in.

sorry for the duplication.
This one is the list of testimonials. You will have to search for someone with RA in it but I'm sure there are some.

A lot of public and probably university libraries subscribe to this journal. If it is the current issue, it may also be on the shelf in the larger bookstores.

Steven,
You have been writing in about this for some time now.
What "next" step have you taken to push through your
situation? Or, are you just waiting for somethng to
happen? You MUST take a step in a positive direction
to move forward. You are not stuck there permanantly
unless you deem it so and settle within your
circumstances. Instead of allowing yourself to be so
frustrated, make some calls, and get some help. It
sounds like you are just allowing yourself to stay stuck.
I know it is hard to push through. As I've told you before,
I've been there. So have others. You must decide
whether or not you want to stay in this hole. You can get
out, if you would just stop allowing your mind to put up
false bounderies. There are people with cancer and
other life threatening disease that go forward and try to
make it through. I think your situation is tough, but if you
don't do something, it will only get tougher. You need to
stop blaming SR for your problems and realize that you
had issues before you started SR. The SR brought
those problems to the surface, and you are in the thick
of it. It is up to you whether or not you will do something
about it. No one will do it for you.
