I have been having pain in my right knee for 3 months and it is escalating everyday. I also experience locking in the knee after bending it and trying to straighten it. It must "pop" to release. This is also very painful. My foot has been going numb for a while too. Saw an ortho and he suspected a torn meniscus. An MRI revealed a bakers cyst (5x2cm) and nothing torn. I have been told by someone it is dangerous to remove this cyst because of all the blood vessels and nerves in the area. I will see the ortho again soon and would like to know what route I should follow. I have read everything in the archives and haven't seen anyone with a locking knee symptom. Or is this not related?

Hi, Carol.
Probably related.
Remember that it doesn't take much to "lock" a knee. The cartilege damage could be far less than our currently primitive machines can detect. This is still best detected by a skillful examination by a competent physician. It may take an intra-articular scoping to find it.
Removal of a Baker's is rarely the solution to any problem since it is really not the problem at all but the consequence of the problem (rent in the capsule). The scoping could also find the rent.
Hope this helps.
