Pored over archives for Baker Cyst Archives...

Posted by Arleen Andersen on September 15, 2000 at 01:28:31:

...And found nothing that related to my problem with this. Ive had a baker cyst for 2 years. In the beginning the pain was minimal, and havent had much trouble till now. Occasionally, the lump goes up and down, is this normal and what causes this? Also, Im having pain now and it is bigger than it ever was, about as big as a ping pong ball. It also has a red dot, like a pimple right in the mddle of it. What kind of home care can I give it? Could it be ready to rupture, if so is it a nedical energency? Should I have it drained, and if so, how long does it take, do they numb it, and how does it feel afterward? Im sorry for all the questions, but found no answers to these questions in the archives. Thank you Walt, hope you are feeling MUCH better.

Hi, Arlene.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Sounds like you need to see a knowledgable surgeon (one who knows that the most important thing is locating the rent in the joint capsule and repairing THAT, not removing the "cyst"). Once the rent has been sealed the cyst would disappear of its own mechanisms.

There is no emergency EXCEPT it is a LOT easier to find the rent IF the cyst is present: all one has to do is follow the cyst to its neck. Once the cyst is ruptured, it is VERY difficult to find the rent.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

Arlene,

You have not done your homework. This is explained many times in the archives. The "rent" is a rip in the joint capsule that allows the fliuyd to leak out.

Walt
