I just found out I have a bakers cyst the size of a golf ball. I had a bad cramp upon waking up in my calf with pain afterwards in my knee and up into my thigh. The Dr. told me not to worry, that it wasn't cancerous. I mentioned arthritis as I have been told I am a candidate for that due to minor knee injuries (stress on the knees).
My main question is, how big should this cyst to be concerned? I do feel some pain and numbness in the area.
Help! Nervous!

Renee, more than likely Dr Stoll is going to tell you to read the archives on Bakers Cyst. Dont waste your time, all he says about is is 'the pain goes down the leg'. I read every article and learned nothing. If it bothers you you can either have it drained (it may come back) or have it completely removed. Mine is about the size of a ping pong ball, seems if I stand on my feet for long periods, it starts to hurt and swell, at other times, the swelling seems to go down. Just kep an eye on it, if it gets too bothersome for you, have your doctor refer you to an orthopedic surgeon. Good Luck!

ANNIE,
Thanks for answering my question. I do know of a good orthopedic surgeon and will seek his advice. I was wondering if you had a tingling sensation in your leg, down to your toes?
My family doctor told me not to worry and put me on Celebrex for 2 weeks. I guess this is one day at a time.
Thanks again Annie.

In the past I have had the tingling, possibly the cyst is resting on a nerve. Your best bet is to have it looked like, and my cyst believe it or not started with me getting charley horses in my leg. next thing I knew I had a lump behind my knee. Have you seen a doc for this at all?

Renee,
I have had Baker's cysts on both knees. My orthopedic surgeon has told me that they usually go away when the underlying cause is treated. In other words, something is causing your it to pouch out. I agree, go to an OS and get an opinion.
Be well,
Lynne

ANNIE, Yes I have seen A Dr. He thinks the tingling was caused from a reaction to taking a nasal decongestant and celebrex at the same time. There still is a little tingling near the cyst though. However, I don't feel like I'll have to be wheeled out on a stretcher!
My next try to help with the cyst (and my chronic sinus infections) is Herbal Remedies and Acupuncture. It can't hurt! I will be doing that under the supervision of a specialist in those areas. I know of someone who used this alternate healing approach and her ovarian cyst disappeared! I have other 'believe it or not' testimonials re: acupuncture. That is why I am going that route.
I will keep you updated on this. Thanks again for replying!
