baker's cyst

Since Jan 2001 I have been searching for the reason my right lower leg is edematous. After numerous tests, dopplers, Mri's, etc. It was determined I have a baker's cyst from a torn meniscus. I was referred to an arrogant, rude ortho man who insists that I don't need the cyst removed, it is 3.9c2.2cm and trailing about 5 inches at this point. My leg swells daily, worse at the end of the day and its painful, this ortho guy also says the swelling will probably always stay there even if he was to remove the cyst. All he wants to do is an arthroscopy to repair the meniscus. The doppler I had says the cyst is causing extrinsic compression on my popiteal vein. Dah! Do I have the god syndrome in assuming that reduced return blood flow is causing the swelling here because of the compression from the cyst. Leaving this thing alone as ortho guy suggests seems to me can set me up for a lot more problems, slow moving blood could result in clots, total blockage if it gets bigger, then tissue death. Why is this ortho guy giving me this run around and refusal to even consider my feelings and logical beliefs about this. I had a surgery set for this past week and I cancelled it, Im searching for another doctor. I suppose if I hear the same thing, then okay I am wrong. Given the details here, what do you think. I did read your archives, I saw no mention of the entire lower leg swelling. Please respond. Thanks Kim
