hello dr stoll......i was reading over all the archives and read a lot about baker cyst. there was one thing i didnt see....i was told by a physician that the leg pain could be from the cyst leaking. can it leak without the cyst disappearing and can this leakage cause pain in the entire leg? thanx ever so much, bridgette

Your doc should be ashamed for an explanation like this!

First of all, if the cyst leaked fast enough to cause symptoms, it would quickly disappear. Leaking slowly enough that the cyst stayed could not cause symptoms.

The fluid is identical to what is in the joint all the time. it is not corrosive OR irritating and would just be absorbed into hte tissue without ANY symptoms.
