3rd biofeedback session

Posted by Steve on October 07, 2002 at 19:07:48:

I would have posted this earlier, but hurricaines Isidore and Lili forced me into a hasty retreat.

On my third biofeedback session, the tape was autogenic heaviness and warmth theme (this is the theme I usually practice with SR). The feedback was indeed positive. I was able to lower forhead temp and raise fingertip temp. I was also able to get the GSR down to minimal levels. Heart rate was down in the lower sixties (average). I am confident that I am reaching the relaxation response. I must also say that this has been helping me quite well. It has only been about a month since I became really serious about SR and I feel that it is paying off. My anxiety levels are lower and I feel much more relaxed throughout the day. My body is slowly coming back to balance. Years of bracing and stress and anxiety have made me unwell physically and mentally. I feel that SR is reversing this. I am also confident that I will have to practice SR for the rest of my life. I am prepared to do that. I will forever be a student. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress as the weeks pass. Tomorrow will be biofeedback session number 4. I would suggest that everyone serious about SR get hooked up a few times in order to fine tune their meditation. Once you know you are reaching the relaxation response, then you can revisit it with greater ease. Then you know you are on the right path.
Good luck to you all
Peace
Steve

Steve -I really appreciate your posting of your biofeedback experiences.

My husband will undergo his second one tomorrow. This is something I've wanted for him for decades, literally decades!, but no doctor would ever help me locate a practitioner, much less help me to prod my husband who, unfortunately, is not very dedicated to seeking his own wellness. My guy is under a lot of stress - much of it his own doing but also a lot of leftover stuff from serving with the marines in WWII. It has seemed so clear to me, through the years, that biofeedback was practically tailor-made for someone like him - an engineer who relates to the oscilloscopes, dials, sensors, etc. And so it was. The first session was mainly to get acquainted and familiar with what was going to take place. It was very comfortable and interesting. My husband won't ADMIT to looking forward to going back but I'm pretty sure he does.

Anyway, good luck and looking forward to hearing how you're doing.

By the way, I found this biofeedback practitioner on my own, by asking around, and happy circumstance!, he is in partnership with a neurologist and can therefore bill (Medicare in this case) through the medical corporation and it will be covered.

One more by the way, I had asked my husband's present doctor (we've recently re-located) if he knew of any local practitioners and he said no. He was entirely uninterested in helping me to pursue biofeedback. Yet, when we met the practitioner, he claimed to know this doctor fairly well! This does nothing at all to improve my views of conventional medical doctors. Bah!Humbug!
