i live in new zealand and looking at how to assess my SR

I read the archives on this before. So you would not recommend (if one goes for professional testing) to have it be EEG even though that directly measures the brainwaves and lets u know if ur in Alpha?

The last I did a thorough evaluation of these machines was 20 years ago. At that time the EEG machines were so difficult to use that only really good professionals had much chance of them helping: Much more expensive and less reliable. That is why I have consistantly recommended using the GSR: much less expoensive and you do not have to be VERY competent to use it.
I have not heard of any significant improvement in this but have not personally evaluated these machines lately.
