Walt,
To answer your question from the "Not bursitis after all" string further down. I thought I had bursitis; it turned out to be a bad muscle spasm down the left side of my back and into my left hip. I also have mild scoliosis to further complicate things. I mentioned that I had checked my SR progress with my GSR machine, and I could bring it down to a slow click within 30 seconds. You asked me to check the equipment by NOT trying to relax. Well, the machine maxed out, and emitted a high pitched tone found to be quite unpleasurable to the pets in the house.
I then tried to reach alpha, and it took a bit longer than 30 seconds, but then it's hard to ignore the pain in my back and hip right now. It took me about 5-7 minutes to bring it down to a slow click.
Is it possible that I'm reaching the proper mental state, but not the proper muscle relaxation that should accompany it? If so, what would you suggest?
Thanks,
Sara

Hi, Sara.
Sounds like you are getting there all right I have never seen anyone who coudl separate the effects like you are describing although I have read about rare cases.
For now, I would keep up what is working (since it will eventually change how your hypothalamus functions) and consider the Rolfing, series of massages, Feldenkrais, or Alexander Technique that would effect your muscles directly while waiting for your SR to act at a deeper level.
