Dr. Stoll,
My friend has a brachial cleft cyst. He had a biposy and it came back clear. The doctors have informed us that he needs suryery to remove this. What is this and what cause's it. Is there anything we can do alternative to resolve it, maybe hot packs, oils and so on.
Thanks for your help.
Charlotte

Hi, Charlotte.
This is a developmental birth defect like a pilonidal problem is at the other end of the body. It is major surgery to remove it and it tends to recur. No treatment I know of, except surgery by an head and neck surgical specialist, has any chance of curing it. If it gets infected, the first thing I would use is hot compresses.
Hope this helps.
Walt
