I had a hestorectomy 1 year ago and had one ovary left in.
Now i am having problems empting my bladder sitting.
I went to my doctor and sent me for aultra sound.
Now i have to go to hospital and have where i urinate from...have to get it stretched.
I am very nervous about having that done.
I would like to know more on that and can't find anyone that has had that done.
Please Reply back to me
Thank-You
Chrissy

Hi, Chrissy
I am surprised that your doctor is sending you to the hospital to have this procedure done. I've had this done off and on throughout the past year at my urologists office. They put apply a numbing gel to the urethra, wait a few minutes and then proceed with the dilation. It hurts to a very mild degree and seems to last a while. Of course, this is more like applying a bandaid over the cause instead of curing the cause. Still working on my wellness path in order to prevent having to do this.
I'm still working on curing the cause instead of having these dilations every so often. I've never had to go under sedation, however, my mom recently had the procedure done under anhistia (spl?)recently. Looking forward to hearing Dr Stoll's reply. He normally answers posts within 2 days.

Hi, Chrissy.
Listen to B.B.
I do not see how a dilation would help unless you had a VAGINAL hysterectomy.

I had a hestorectomy and had 1 ovary removed....it seems i have had that done a year ago and now i am getting nothing but problems urinating sitting...he said my tract is too small and has to be stretched...
It worries me....hoping nothing more than what he is telling me

I had a similar problem after my hysterectomy ten years ago. When they remove your uterus, your bowels kind of move around a little to acccomdate themselves. I had this problem of pressure and slow to urinate for about a year or so, and then it went away by itself. I had been stretched before in my twenties for continual UTI's which never showed any bacteria, and I was going to be darned if I ever subjected myself to that again. It didnt even work. How long have you been experiencing this problem? Do you think you could wait it out a little.

Naya
Well it has been going on for a couple of months now...it is getting really unbearable....now i have to do more of the stand up position to empty my bladder.
I don't know which way to turn...Doctor said i would get some burning after the procedure....but he did not say for how long.
It is really bothering me to have it stretched.

Chrissy,
If my urologist has to stretch the uretha a considerable amount I get a burning when I urinate. It doesn't burn any other time and my doctor gives me a pill in order to minimize the burning. By the next day I'm feeling no noticeable burning pain. Know it's not good to take pills, however, it helps.
Still can't understand why your doctor is having you go to the hospital to have this procedure done under anesthia. I've got an overactive bladder as well as stress incontinence.
My next urologist's appointment is the end of next month and since taking antibiotics notice a difference as well.
I've been working on my SR sessions in order to get me on my wellness path. You might want to research Stress Relaxation and stress in the archives to help you learn how to help yourself.

Yes Walt it was a vaginal hysterectomy...just had one ovary removed and when it was discussed to keep both ovaries in he said yes as they are still functioning and couple weeks ago i just found out from my doctor that i only have 1 ovarie.

Chrissy, I'm really sorry to hear about how awful this is for you. I didn't have to stand up to go, but I did have a lot of problems going and a lot of pain I did not have a vaginal procedure, however, so maybe your problems and mine aren't the same. If you are feeling that the situation is intolerable, I guess you could have the stretching done, since it's not about continual UTI's, is it? Has your doc suspected insterstitial cystitis? Do you have pain or is it that you just can't go sitting down? One last thought, even if you do opt for the dilation, I would start doing SR immediately and continue it after indefinitely. It will relax the muscles and nerves in that area after a while. Check the glossary and the archives for info on SR. There's a lot of it. Let us know what you decide and how you're going. Best wishes!

Chrissy,
Should I give up asking? Was this a vaginal hysterectomy?

Thanks, Chrissy,
This tells me that the urethra was damaged at surgery. Also, a vaginal hysterectomy does not afford as easy visualization (duriong surgery) of the possible anomalous blood supplies to the ovaries. The circulation to your remaining ovary may have been destroyed which means that you may experience a surgical menopause with no symptoms other that the bladder one.
Some hormone blood tests would tell the latter and reconstructive surgery to the urethra (a urological specialist with microscopic reconstructive surgery experience and training) may be your only hope for the former UNLESS your hormones are low and replacement returns your urethral function--with exercises.
Let us know what you learn. I would seriously doubt that a dilation would help your symptoms--but I have not had the privilege of examining you either.
Namaste`
Walt

I have had the procedure done on leaky bladder.
So far it has been good.
The procedure took place April 3.
They had to stretch the passage way to bladder.
Now what i want to know is.....would it bother it if my husband and i continue to have sex or should we wait.

Hi, Chrissy.
Since each procedure and each person is different, only your doc can advise you here.
Dilating the urethra will seldom be a permanent solution to any bladder condition.
