I have about three blisters starting to form on my feet. They are red at the moment, and look kind of flat, but I think they are goign to bubble and blister. Very tender. One of them is raw at the moment.
The dance floor tonight. I swear they put some kind of polish down to make it anti-slippery. Except its too anti slippery, and in order to do the movements, I had to exaggerate the footwork more, which created more tension and pressure on my feet from my shoes.
Should I burst the blisters or leave them be, that is the question?

If you burst them prior to going out on the dance floor, you could have a bit of lube for your footwork. Kinda gross, but it worked for me. The instructor wasn't too pleased about it though.

I would leave them be and not dance until they are healed up enough to take the pressure. TAPE your feet and dance with ballet slippers or barefooted (even for jazz). If you don't know how to tape your feet, ask someone because you can get the tape too tight and hurt your feet. Unless of course you are tapping or ballroom dancing, then you are doing something really wrong because any movement in tap should never give you blisters. If that's the case, then I would have a professional check your shoes for correct fit and evaluate your technique very closely. I used to dance four nights per week, so I know what I am talking about.
DO NOT do what another dancer says to do, that's just disgusting and opens you up to an infection and spreads your fluids around for other people to step in. YUK!

Hi, Miss.
Leave them be so long as they are not leaking. As soon as they break or start leaking you must remove all of the blister skin and treat them by washing with antibacterial soap and applying an antibacterial ointment sparingly (at least twice a day) until it is no longer "red and raw".
Go, you "dancing fool" :o).

Dancing fool? lol. Walt, I am shocked at you! Was that a personal attack, and can I email the board administrator to have your post deleted? :) Methinks not! lol
My feet are still tender totts right now. Ooochie! Ouchie! I could hardly walk properly at work today in my heels, every step felt like I was walking on knives. Even though I had applied band aids to them. Two have already leaked from the pressure of my pumps against them.
I would have thought it was best to leave the blister alone and to heal on its own once the fluid escapes.
I am a bit apprehensive about having to peel back the skin on them, as they are still very tender. I will get someone else to do the peeling. Cant handle watching stuff like that, well, only on my own body. I am a woos!
Ciao!

Thanks, Miss.
It was meant to be a compliment!
The reason for peeling the skin off once the blister is broken, is that the germs just love to hide in the space protected by the blister skin where your circulation cannot get to them. This is so universally true that I would doubt the credentials of any professional who would disagree.
So long as the blister is not broken the fluid tends to stay sterile.

I knew that Walt. I was just joshing with ya! Crazy aussie humour, you know. :)
BTW Walt
Do you like latin american Dancing, per chance? We are having a latin dance extravaganza for the end of term dancing season on Tuesday night. Wanna come and watch me be a "dancing fool"? You're officially invited! :)

Thanks. Blissy.
What an invitation! I used to really enjoy all forms of ballroom dancing. Then my eldest son invited me to go sky diving with him. I fractured my pelvis on the first jump and have not danced since.
Dance a dance for me!

Oh, Gawd!, Walt!
So sorry to hear that, but personally I cant stand the ballroom dancing I learnt as a child. I blame it all on mum and dad, for pressuring me and my sister to ballroom when we were younger. We both hated it, especially having to dance together. Ugh! lol We were always fighting over who was going to be the female lead. lol And being the oldest, guess who got stuck with the male lead??? Moi! :(
Dancing is the most fun I have with both my feet on the ground. Actually this latin american dance is not too different from ballroom, except no slow dancing (yeah!) We have learnt so far Merengay, Salsa (my fav), Cha Cha, Mambo. Remember any of those, Walt? What was your fav dance?
Ok, must go for now. Before I forget, what time should I be expecting you at the International airport? (wink, wink) :)

I'd take those heel off if I were you, at least until your feet heal. You'll look a bit less professional but your feet (and legs) will thank you for it.

Nope, sorry, definitely wearing those heels tomorrow night, even if it kills me, and bursts those blisters all over the show. lol Actually, my feet are almost back to normal. I am going to put some cotton wool and band aids over the tender spots for now.
But alas, I am not the main attraction. There are going to be professional latin dance performers there with many more years experience than little ole me. I am just a side kick, not a professional......YET! :)

Thanks, Blissy.
My mom did the same thing for us kids (7 0f us and I was the oldest). Your description brought back old memories. I especially hated tap. At least I always got to be the man.
My favorites, once I needed the skill, were the fox trot and the polka.
What is an airport :o)?

Blisters from last nights extracurricular activities!!!
But, OH, Walt, everything was so right with the world last night. I could swear there was no unhappiness, sadness or war in this world. What a blast! I was ecstatic, blissed out, sweet. Yeah, and guess what, we were the last couple to walk off that dance floor. It felt awesome to be the last!
The dance performers were so amazing. Kept me and the other dancers and audience spellbound. I want to be that good one day, and I know with dedicated practise, I can do whatever they did and as good. I am not being egotistical, just honesst. lol
The male dance performer asked me to dance towards the end of the evening. I was totally in awe of him, especially when he asked me if I wanted him to teach me to jive. Um, YES, PLEASE! lol
He was so smooth, agile and light on his feet. He is Italian, and he taught me the RHUMBA! Have you ever done that dance, Walt?
wow, what a sensual dance. He taught me it so well. A great teacher.
BUT, there were some problems last night. My first dance wasnt the best. I think it was nerves. The next dance was the real problem. The man I danced with, is an excellent male lead dancer, but he danced fast and hard with me, spinning me like a top (which I didnt mind) and it was a really fast number. My legs, lower legs that is, got weak, and I got really out of breath. Somehow I was able to keep up til the end of the song, but when I came off the dance floor, Iwas out of breath, so thirsty, and coughing slightly from the exhertion.
When we danced together again, (a slower dance, thank god!)I told him about that, and he said I probably wasnt breathing properly whilst dancing, and also that it was a really fast number, plus there was no warm up, of course, before the party. I do tend to have rather restricted breathing when I am dancing as I am so focused, especially last night, as there was an audience watching, and I didnt want to stuff up the steps and look like a total dweeb! lol
I thought maybe the weakness in my legs was caused from no carbs in my diet, Walt. What do you think? Should I go back to having at least one serving a day, or do you think thats not the reason? I would prefer not to eat carbs,a s I am doing so well without them, but not at the expense of my dancing, if possible.
Afriend of mine at work is a dance teacher, and I asked her about it today and she said sometimes when the adrenaline gets pumping or you get nervous, the weakness in the legs can occur, but I dont remember being nervous dancing with him, but I wasnt really paying attention to whether I was nervous, I was just really in the moment and enjoying it.

Congratulations, Blissy.
What a wonderful evening!
I would tend to agree with your friend the dance instructor.
Remember, our entire metabolisn is geared to converting fats and proteins to carbohydrates when our body needs carbos for energy.
I am mainly concerned about your blisters on top of blisters. You will have to learn to pace yourself until those blisters become callouses. Then you can be a "dancing fool" that can dance everyone under the table.

Walt,
I just got back from another dancing class tonight, and I noticed during one of the dances when I looked down at my feet, it was very red, and then I realized it was bleeding on my little toe.
You know what tho, I didnt feel any pain until I actually stopped dancing, and when I kept dancing the pain "miraculously" vanished, until I got off the dance floor, walked to my car, or maybe I should say hobbled to my car with my tender tots :)
It was tender previously, but had healed, but now that my shoe has ripped the skin off, and started bleeding, should I apply the ointment you recommended or just let it heal on its own. It looks pretty gross right now. I have been asked to help out teaching on Tuesday Nights in the beginners class, so I will have to get my act together, and heal these feet quick, or else there wont be any dancing for me. I am so excited at having been asked to help out and teach. I feel like I have made it; come of age! :)
"Remember, our entire metabolisn is geared to converting fats and proteins to carbohydrates when our body needs carbos for energy. "
Ok, so if I have this right Walt, you are saying that it shouldnt matter that I dont have carbs in my diet, I should stil have enough enegy from the proteins and fats in my diet????
"You will have to learn to pace yourself until those blisters become callouses."
Hmm, Pace myself??? You mean slow down some?
Btw, tonight I didnt experience that same weakness in my lower legs at class, so maybe it was nerves at being under the spotlight and pressure to perform that night.
Thanks again
