Starting elimination diet Wednesday

Posted by Mike Kramer on December 21, 1998 at 09:55:04:

Robert:
I would like to start the elimination diet with Wednesday dinner. Xmas is the next day, but I plan to bring my own food to the celebration. A nice test of my will!

I have my Alka-Seltzer gold and am chomping at the bit to get started. But first, three questions:

1) I have chosen Wednesday since I have to undergo a GI endoscopy and will be taking a strong laxative Tuesday night. I will be only drinking liquids from Tuesday afternoon till Wednesday night. I figured that since I have to do this for my procedure, I might as well take advantage of the situation and follow it by the diet. I am wondering what your comments would be to someone in that situation.

2) I have identified myself as a Hypo-Glycemic Hunter-Gatherer on the basis of the following fasting glucose tolerance test results (Glucose mg/dL):
Fasting 102
hr 196
1 hr 216
2 hr 108
3 hr 72
4 hr 85
5 hr 91

My blood type is AB+. I currently have lamb a few meals a week. My preference would be to make the elimination diet an almost all-lamb diet. Fish usually seems to give me acne (albeit mild). Can I make this an almost all-lamb diet or should I avoid lamb since I eat it already and may be sensitive to it? Should I focus on the fish since I rarely eat it? (I presume I may eat olive oil with impunity.)

3) Should I avoid doing the diet at all right now and instead wait till I find the results of the candida blood test?

I have done elimination diets before and never really benefited from them. If this test does not successfully identify allergens for me, I won't be too concerned. I have already been enlightened enormously from the contributions made by you to this board and from your recommendation of Rudolf Wiley's book.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Sounds like you are 'locked and loaded'. You are definately a H-G so feel free to use the lamb and olive oil along with the other 'safe' foods listed on the elimination diet.

When you have the candida immune complexes test has no impact on the elimination diet.

Starting the diet after the endoscopy is fine but you should play things by ear as to the way you feel. The only thing that I'm concerned about is that you will probably be experiencing withdrawl during days 2 and 3. In other words that might put too much Bah-Humbug into your holidays.

Like you, I'm curious to find if will experience withdrawl and clearing.

Bob,

I noticed that olive oil is allowed on the elimination diet. Is butter also allowed? What about mineral salt? You have already determined in previous posts that I'm probably a H-G; possibly a Mixed.

Four of us are doing the elimination diet together after the holidays, and I just want to be sure I know what is allowed and what isn't.

Sara,

Definately no butter allowed. Butter is from milk and the latter is one of the top 4 food allergens.

Mineral salt or sea salt is the only allowed condiment.

Bob
