Buffalo jerky has arrived. What do I do with it?

Posted by Mike Kramer on January 20, 1999 at 12:51:54:

I received my buffalo jerky in yesterday's mail. Do I just grab a huge hunk in my hands and bite a piece off? Or do I get a saw and cut it into small pieces and chew on them? Or do I soak it and water first?

Hi Mike,

First thing is that you shouldn't consider your jerky as a main course to sustain you on a regular basis. Indians would put it in the category of a 'savory' used as a snack.

I cut the jerky into about 2" by 2" squares with scissors (unless you have the Herculean strength needed to tear the stuff....). Pop one in your mouth and let it hydrate by lightly chewing it. It will expand many times it's original size. Chew it until you think you've gotten it pretty well broken down and then swallow.

Bob

Just how big is your mouth, Bob???
