Does a Craving for Meat mean anything??

Posted by RocketHealer Jim++ on February 06, 1999 at 21:48:40:

Several days lately upon coming home from my new job assignment (seemingly from HELL!-I suppose all new jobs SEEM that way for at least a while), I've been ravenous for meat, any meat, in huge quantities, all evening long. Even though I know that eating that much meat is probably not good for me (excessive fat and cholesterol, etc.) and will also probably make my intestines very "uncomfortable" for several days afterwards, the craving persists and I seem to need strongly to "feed" it what it wants.

Does that craving for MEAT! tell me anything?

Perhaps is it a Primal instinct to kill and devour someone or something job-related. (-: A new twist to Fight or Flight syndrome! :-)

I'm not getting much exercise lately, at least partially due to focusing so much of my time and my mental energies to learning the job, so it's not that I'm breaking many muscle fibers body-building and need lots of protein for rebuilding :-)

I know that we are supposed to listen to our bodies, for what is requested and then notice how the body reacts to what we actually give it. Cravings for sugars I (think I) understand, but for Meat?

Anyone have a "table" of cravings and descriptions of what they "mean"? No, I'm NOT pregnant!

Jim!

I am going through the exact same thing tonight! I can't believe my eyes reading your post. I also just started a new job this week and today was a rough day for me, and all I wanted was a cheeseburger after work! (And I rarely eat any meat at all!)

Funny.

Namaste', and good luck in the workplace.

Maybe it means you should have some.....

Hi RH-Jim,

I'm taking a bit of a punt in the dark here, but...

You've been kinda doing the whole food diet, but haven't mentioned what metabolic type you think you are. If you are H-G meatbolic type, or O blood type, you do need lots of meat. And maybe you've been eating more fruit & veges on the whole food diet and less meat.

Also, if you are that type, more stress probably means you need more more protein than usual.

Just a thought, Deb.

If it is red meat than you might be lacking Iron

What if you're a supposed H/G and never crave meat?

Hi Deb!

What if you are supposed to be a H/G, and you never crave meat (not for any moral issues), and only remember craving it about 3 times in your whole life?

Tony

Jim,

I've always had that craving! Forever! My favorite thing is to wrap meat in lettace, tomatoe and onion in a corn tortia. Oh God, it is so good!

Oh Yikes, I know that it's so bad for me, but I can't help it..I love it. The mixture in one bite is extasy for me. (sp)

I don't know my blood type, and have never read ERFYT, etc. but by taking the questionaires here (somewhere) I figured out that I'm obviously a H-G. Since I'm here, I'm probably an EXTREME!

So, in that sense, my recent cravings for meat make sense to me. I was wondering if, in general, there is a correlation between cravings and what they "mean". Thus my question posed here.

Why do think it is so bad for you?

If you love it so, why not just enjoy it? Do you know your metabolic profile (ala Mcferran) ?

Perhaps you need it!

Jim,

Cravings can not reliably predict your inherited metabolic needs. There are simply too many other factors at play (i.e. food sensitivities, the 'comfort food' psychological associations, etc.).

You see? I told the truth...but not the Whole Truth.

I love that because there is something about the hot spicy meat combined with chilled lettace and tomatoe that really gets my juices flowing. I don't care what kind of meat it is either...Beef, Pork, Chicken or Fish.

But....then I add stuff..err you know...Butter, Mayonaise, tartar sauce or chinese mustard...depending on what the meat is. Oh Geeeeez, then the herbs..you have to have FRESH herbs!

I can feel my arteries hardening as we speek....

Terry said: I can feel my arteries hardening as we speek....

This might sound overly simplistic, but Please don't ever visualize things that you don't want to happen, even in jest. Your subconscious listens to everything you say and think and then continually works on/toward whatever you tell it. So if you think about your arteries hardening, then most likely they are/will.

But I must add, Don't tell your subconscious a Negative thing, like "My arteries are no longer hardening". Negative statements just either (1) confuse the subconscious, or (2) get worked on as if they were positive, in this case, causing the arteries to HARDEN.

Believe it or Not!

Did I misunderstand the surveys/questionaires?

Robert:

I did not base my H-G status from my recent meat cravings. Sorry if it came across that way.

Some time back I spent some time in the archives here reading about H-G vs AG types and from those discussions determined that I was definitely strongly toward the H-G side. As I remember it, it was based on my reactions to common foods. Did I miss something or do it wrong somehow?

Is there a better way to figure it out than what is available on this site? (It seems that I went to someone else's site linked to here, too, but I forget whose.) I'm as capable as the next person of misinterpreting things, but I'm more vocal than most about my understandings, even if they turn out later to be wrong/ But then I change them accordingly. Hopefully others also benefit in the process.

Thanks,
RocketHealer Jim++

Jim,

I didn't make any accessment about your individual metabolic needs. I was only addressing the fact that 'cravings' are poor indicators of metabolic needs. The stuff in the archives are better indicators and ultimately the way your mind/body feels once you follow the H-G diet with PRECISION will be the BEST indicator.
