E-Diet - Day 3

Posted by Corinne on March 05, 1999 at 10:49:11:

Well, yesterday, (day 3)I could hardly eat my fish at lunch, I just picked at it, (it is so tastless!!)last night I went to aerobics and then a meeting by the time I realized it it was almost 10pm. I didn't eat anything by yesterday I had lost 5 lbs, probably water. Today I am kind of weak, I know I need to eat more, I am going to stop by the store and get some yams or sweet potatoes. I can't find mackerel and the thought of beheading those trout is not appetizing. I did not even have a headache yesterday, I felt pretty good, the lightest I have in years. Could the reason I'm not feeling any withdrawals is that I gave up caffeine years ago, and dairy the beginning of January?
I think my biggest problem is sugar anyway. Should I keep up with the diet til sunday? Have I cleared? What do you think I should do now, I guess i am getting kind of impatient for "something" to happen.

Corrine,

If you don't want to eat fish be sure that you are eating some of the vegetables and fruit and remember to stay well hydrated with lots of spring water.

Excuse me if you've already told me but what metabolic subset do you think you fall? What condition are you trying to improve?

Be patient for another 2 days to see if we can get you to clear even more.

Bob

Would using Listerine with sorbitol hurt any thing? I didn't realize this until this morning!! If it does, what about the toothpaste?

Corrine,

If you really want to be safe you could use a little bicarbonate of soda to brush with. I haven't seen where toothpastes are a big problem but I would stop the Listerine for now. Is there any alcohol in there? That would be a definate problem.

Corrine,

How did you know that you are pre-diabetic? Have you ever had a 5 hour glucose tolerance test? If you are tending to have a diabetic curve that would strongly suggest an EXTREME Agriculturist metabolism.

Not needing the fish during the elimination diet is also suggestive of an Agriculturist.

No I've had no tests, but Diabetes is very strong in my family. My mother has it, and I have a real "sweet tooth"
Let me state my facts again. I am a 50 year old Latina from New Mexico. A lot of Indian/mexican/Spanish blood in NMex. about 25 lbs overweight. Never get sick, never get flu but on a routine physical, I was told that I had chronic Hepatitis C. Took Interferon for 1 year ('97)and have had 3 clear blood tests. Gained about 15 lbs during that year, and was tired alot although my white blood count did not go down much. Since I am high risk for diabetes, (had baby over 9 lbs., overweight, have diabetic parent), I am trying to avoid it. Plus, I have a real addiction to sweets and carbs.

Corrine,

Thanks for updating me again. I think I remember the basis for my thinking you were a H-G.

You need to try to compare your energy level and hunger when you eat three meals with fish in them on one day and then only eat fish for dinner the next.

Let me know the results.

Thanks,

Bob

Dear Corrine,

Or tastebuds have been numbed by years of the sweet-fat diet promoted by the advertisers. Until one has been on healthy food for a month or so, our taste buds seem to think we are eating cardboard. The flavors of whole foods are subtle but MUCH more satisfying once one can sense them.

ANYONE who has made this transition KNOWS that the sweet-fat diet is depriving all of us of the truly marvelous tastes that are our birthright. During the transition, learn to use enough of your favorite spices to get the taste you want. They will not numb your tastebuds but actually help them reawaken.

Learning is always an effort but it usually is well worth the time & energy required.

Dear Corrine,

How about cayanne?

I got a plasticized wall chart from the healthfood store that helped me know what kind of spices worked for which kinds of foods. It was a BIG help in my beginning struggle with getting my tastebuds back.
