so i've been fussing with my diet for some time now, trying to get a handle on my erratic blood sugar and fatigue. i finally went to a doctor who told me i was the poster-child for food allergy and after an allergy test recommended that i eliminate most grains (some rice ok), dairy and yeast. i cook at home and eat a wide variety of and decent amounts of meats, fruits, nuts/seeds, and vegetables as well as some brown rice. problem is every time i eliminate grains i bruise very easily. any ideas?

Hi jkc,

You might do well to read about the "Whole Foods Diet" promoted on this website, because it exactly addresses the issues you are talking about -- blood sugar and fatigue. I follow the diet and it has helped me.

About the bruising, Walt recommends taking bioflavinoids. There is an archive about bruising that gives the details of how much to take.

Best wishes,
Happygal

my question isn't how to stop bruising, but rather why only when eliminating grains (which are supposed to be bad for me) do i begin bruising? why do i not bruise if i eat a consistent diet of pizza, sandwiches, coffee and pie? are my bioflavinoids more available in these foods? i would think not, but something just doesn't add up. also, i already follow a whole foods diet and have for some time, so i don't really think that's relevant...but thanks for your suggestion nonetheless.

Hi, JKE.

This reminds me of the byline from the old radio show "The Shadow". The show began and ended with the sonorous statement: "Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of men? The Shadow knows!"

Who knows the vageries of the mysteries of the human genome? The bodymind knows! Out of the more than 40,000 already known inborn errors of metabolism, with more being discovered every month, surely there is one that requires that individual to need a LOT more bioflavinoids for the healthiest function.

An easy, inexpensive, safe and sure way to test it out is to take the 3000 milligrams of bioflavinoids every day for a month or so and see if it changes your bruising propensity.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
