Dr. Stoll,
I'm a 30 year old female that has undergone many leg operations, including my most recent procedure, (patellectomy.) I've encountered many surgeries due to bilateral subluxating patellas.
Recently, I've been experiencing unexplained bruising, primarily on my legs, but now I've also noticed them on my arms. Something as simple as just someone grabbing my arm lightly will leave bruises, where the fingers were.
The leg bruises are becoming increasingly out of control. Most of them don't hurt, and I have a cluster of them on the top of my leg on the outside, (at least 3-4.)
I've also noticed that the more I sit, the back of my legs become covered in the bruises.
I guess my questions are: Should I be concerned, how can I stop it from occurring and would this be related at all to the many medications that I've taken during the surgeries?
I look forward to your responses.
Thank you!

From what you described, I would personally be worried if that much easy bruising happened to me. But I'm a Rocket Scientist, NOT a Dr. You did not indicate what medications you have been taking, but Walt may have a good idea without you listing them. They could certainly be the culpret.
Till Walt answers, here is something he said about bruising (found in the Supplements Archives) in response to a mother and daughter who both bruise too easily:

Dear Sara,
Although there are serious things that can cause this, the fact that both you AND your daughter have this tendency and yours has gone on for such a long time AND that hers was at least worsened by the pregnancy, makes me pretty secure about what to do.
If you are to be sure, however, you both need a CBC (with indices). If that comes out OK, what you both need (probably genetically) is a lot more bioflavinoids.
You both will need 3 grams of the pure bioflavinoids every day. Within a few weeks you should see results with complete clearing in a few months. Once you are clear for a month or so, you can cut the dose in half. If no more bruising in a few months, cut the dose in half again. You will eventually find a dose that is not enough to prevent this & you will have to go back to the last dose that WAS. THAT is YOUR maintenance dose forever.
Remember, these same bruises are happening in every organ of your body. The skin is just a convenient place where you can see it.
The only reason to cut the dose is for expense. These cannot hurt you.
The trick is in getting the store owner to check the label & see how much you have to take to get that much pure stuff. ALL bioflavinoids are diluted (commercial reasons) and they do not make it easy to tell how MUCH they are diluted.
Hope this helps!
