It may be fractured though - not outright broken. I'd go in early to the ER though - as the weekend approaches I think they get busier! Maybe your MD can get you in? Avoid the ER all together?
Ice it and wrap it to keep swelling down & to prevent movement and more inflammation, for sure - in the meantime.
Then again, right now I'm gimpy knee'd so you may not want MY advice on skeletal systems ;/

Let me tell you from experience, that it could go either way. I had double wrist injuries years ago where I was playing basketball and I went to block someone trying to dunk the ball. I got the ball and was so into the jump, I forgot about landing so I fell back on both my wrists. They both hurt but the left one felt a bit worse. Like a sports idiot, I continued to play. Later that night, I could not use my left wrist, but I could move it. It just hurt. Went to the ER, had X-rays, was told right wrist badly sprained, left wrist compound fracture. I may have hurt it more ignoring and playing, rather than stopping.

So get it xray'd if it hurts real bad. Doesn't matter if u can move it since I actually played ball with it.

Maz,

The relationship between being able to move it and a fracture is an old wife's tale. Remember that an undisplaced fracture is NOT an emergency and is best diagnosed & treated 7-10 days after the injury.

Initial treatment shold be ice packs (first 24 hours and heat thereafter), accompanied with an ace bandage wrap).

Hope this helps. Let us know what you learn.

Walt

i am writing thhis with one hand. as michelle said i did go to the hospital and the doc said i have broken one of the small bones in my wrist. it is very painful - they gave me a shot in the bum for the pain which made me sleepy. it is in a splint like a wrap around thing and a sling. the doc said to use ice packs but ithink it's probably too late for that. do i continue to keep it immobile. my boss says ishould come to work as they can make allowances for me. i cany even dress myself. try cleaning your teeth, washing hair with one hand. i cant even get my contact lenses in.

what should i do now to speed up recovery. keep it moving or keep it immobile. do i do the ice now or not, it is 24 hours sice the injury.

"they gave me a shot in the bum for the pain"

Sounds like poor aim!

Thanks, Maz.

Wrist fractures are very complex and varied in their treatment.

Be sure you understand what kind of treatment has been recommended and then do it as well as you can.

Walt
