excessive bruising

Posted by J [15.97] on July 18, 2004 at 03:46:26:

In the past when I've taken alot of aspirin type products for headaches, I bruised easier. But, in the last week I've only had l aspirin, the Vit. E I take regularly for varicose veins, and prescription migraine medicine-But, I have a badly bruised finger and haven't had any injury that I remember. I thought I read in the past that Vit. E may contribute to bruising, is this true? Any reason to believe that prescription migraine medicine would contribute to bruising? If Vit. E does contribute to bruising, could it have any negative effect on varicose veins, spider veins? Any other ideas why I might be bruising easily? Also, I'm have heavy, prolonged bleeding with clots and have thought it was peri-menopause--any possibility there is any connection between the bleeding and brusing situations? Thanks.

the heavy bleeding, ect. was said to be adenymosis or possibly peri-menopause. What should I have checked exactly in the way of tests, ect. for the bruising? Also, any connection between the 2 problems? Thank you.

J, I am sure that you should do what Dr Stoll said for you to do, but once when I had something like that easy brusing like when I didn't remember hurting myself, my doctor told me to take All B with C and you can get this at the Drug store, just a vitamin, I took them and the brusing cleared up. I believe that some times a person's blood vessels get weak and that will strengethen them. There is also a reason for this? Could be quite a few?

Yes, I believe that Vitamin E can contribute to bruising if used in an unbalanced manner with other nutrients. It tends to thin the blood, which is good for clotting disorders. There is Vitamin E in the nutritional supplement that I use, but because of the balance, the bruising that I once had a problem with is gone. Peri-menopause could well be the culprit, as could other hormonal imbalances.

J,

Spontaneouus bruising is mainly due to a weakness of the endothelium (inner lining of capillaries) and the most common cause is an idiosyncratic need for more bioflavinoids than the average person. Thus the therapeutic trial of high doses of bioflavinoids.

This is how it is related to your other problem of adenomyosis, etc. It does not say you do not have adenomyosis but that it aggravating the condition.

I know of no tests other than the therapeutic trial. Results will be almost immediate---within a week.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

I'm taking Vit. E for varicose veins, is taking the Vit. E a bad thing for the heavy bleeding associated with the peri-menopause and the bleeding from adenoymosis? And how much should I be taking? Does Vit. E need to be taken with Vit. C, if so-how much?

Could the Vit. E itself be the reason for the bruising if it does thin the blood?

Hi, J.

I do not think vitamin E is part of this equation.
