My Finger

Posted by Louis on February 27, 1999 at 12:59:20:

Dr. Stoll,

I dislocated my ring finger during a basketball game about two weeks ago. I had some x-rays taken and then the (Doctor that pops bones--- I forgot what he is called) poped my finger back in place. They went ahead and taped it. Well yesterday my finger was untaped and it looks a little swollen. A little fatter than my other ring finger. Not only that but I can't bend my finger. I can move the finger up and down but when I try to bend it it feels really stiff. If I use my other hand to force the bending on my finger it hurts.

I was wondering if this was normal, or should I go back to the doctor? This is the first time it's happen to me so I don't know.

Please advice.

Dear Louis,

This is about normal for this time. The Orthopedist should have spelled this out for you and set you up with a physical therapist for rehab before you left his office.

Without rehab, you are going to have a permanently stiff finger and that is unnesssary.

This is an example of the problem with the allopathic monopoly. Orthopedists make one of the highest incomes of any physician $500,000.00 a year is usual. They are NOT just supposed to take the money & run. They are supposed to tell you this stuff at the time. However, insurance only pays him for the number he inserts (in this case: relocated dislocated finger). It makes no provision for his teaching you what YOU need to know since that is assumed.

So long as the MDs have a monopoly, it is too much temptation to just relocate the finger & run to the next patient (fee).

Walt
