I checked with all my local major bookstores without finding this book stocked there. The could look it up, but they simply don't carry it.
I went to Amazon.com online and I see they show it backordered, no idea when they will get it again. I ordered it. I also see only one review on the book there.
Walt recommends this book specifically in his book. Yet from my limited searching, I get the impression this book is not widely known or read. Several thoughts:
1) If/since it is so great, then several people from here ought to write reviews for Amazon.com I rarely buy a book there unless there are several insightful positive reviews, even if there are some less than favorable reviews. That shows people cared enough about the book to write about it even if it disappointed them.
2) Walt should go set up book-selling accounts with Amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com . Once the account is set up, all that is required is to put a link on the web page like this:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0963747800/zonehome
That criptic number is the ISDN number for the book.
Anyone who clicks on that link finds themself in amazon.com looking at the page for that specific book. If they order it during that on-line session, then a commission is tallied and periodically sent to that account-holder. I'm sure Walt could use some extra spending money :-). The book does not cost the person any more or any less due to the commission. And other books ordered online during that same session earn a smaller % commission. I'd suggest doing it for both Amazon.com and barnes/noble to give people a choice and a chance to compare prices. Walt's book could be sold that way too. He would still get the commission for the sale and he would not have to do anything except make up the links on the web page. The .gif (or perhaps .jpeg) files for the book covers are also available at amazon.com and they can be used with the book link at Walt's site. Do please think about it, not only for the commissions, but also to make it easier for us here to buy the books that would help us most.

I was told it was on back order at amazon.com, but I got it in three days anyway. You're right, I'm going over there to write a review now.

For those interested in a copy of Beth's book.
Click on "Health Books" in the side panel on any page of Walt's site except the bulletin board and search pages. There you will find direct ordering information for the book, and an 800 number to talk to the author and get an autographed copy.

I, too, found this book with the 800 number after looking for it in my area. I was told it would take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to get if ordered from one of the bookstores. I called the 800 number and for an extra $3.00 I got the book in 2 days (I live in CA)! I think it is difinately worth the extra 3 bucks!

P.S. When you get the book, try not to get depressed about ALL the foods you should avoid!!!!!

Thanks, RocketHealer Jim, for the ideas.
I know I should be more interested in making money. However, for the life of me, all I am interested in is making it possible for people to help themselves.
"The Healing Power of Whole Foods" was self-published by the author. Any of the bookstores can order single copies if they will go to the bother. Since many stores will not do that, I have listed the (800) 870-5378 number so anyone can order it directly from the author.
She can let anyone know about any reviews if that is what people want. I know this is the best book available for those wanting to get rid of a "sugar addiction" or treat candida.

I found the book at barnesandnoble.com along with the other books Walt recommends. If you order them all at the same time the shipping charges are less, and they all seem to be in stock.
I don't need the money !?

Perhaps another way of looking at it would be that if at the place where you share the 800 number, you could also include a book-specific link for Amazon and one for B&N for the convenience of those who prefer to do business on the web. (such as I do)
If you made some small commissions as a result, why complain? I cannot imagine that setting up an account with them (one-time, I believe), creating the links for the books that you already recommend, and then cashing the monthly(?) checks would be all that "demanding", and certainly not uncondusive to helping people. Of course, if you had to pay a high-paid programmer to set up each book link, then it might not be cost-effective. But for a self- or family-run site, why not go for it? Just my $.02. Seems to me that all would benefit, and no one would be hurt in any way.
In case you wondered about the links I've supplied here, my friend John Weaver runs the ZoneHome.com site, a major labor of love. He used to ask for donations. Now he pays all or most of his site ISP fees from his book commissions. No, that does not pay him labor for developing and maintaining his site, or make his house mortgage payment, but it did enable him to stop asking for donations. When I make up a book link, I make it for him, since I don't have an account with Amazon or B&N. (-: and since I don't need the money, anyway :-)

But, I have to say, I was a bit disappointed that the book is so full of vegetarian recipies. At any rate, it is definitely NOT geared toward Hunter-Gatherers! I guess all the veggie recipes will do for side dishes, but I KNOW I couldn't handle all those bean and rice dishes!
It's well written, and pretty straight forward, though I'm finding I already knew a lot of the stuff, just from hanging around here!
be well

Dear trish,
If you are referring to Beth Loiselle, RD's book "The Healing Power of Whole Foods", the only thing I recommend this for is for those trying to break a refined carbohydrate addiction OR who are treating candida.
If another one, which one is it?
Thanks, Walt

I am battling BOTH a sugar addiction and candida right now, Walt. Seems I've fallen and I can't get up! I am reading the book and trying to decide when/how to do the elimination diet. I think it would be best for me to wait until after the holidays, but in the meantime, I'm fading fast...arthritis, sinus problems, fatigue coming back...So, perhaps I need to rethink that timetable...
Anyway, I had hoped there would be more recipes containing meat in there...what's a hunter-gatherer to do? I guess I'll just broil it like I have been!
be well!

Dear trish,
When getting started on stuff like this, you are adding stressors to your existance until you start getting results to make up for them. THAT is why it is so important to do something that is going to work quickly.
Beth's book is designed to resolve sugar addiction quickly and deal with candida as quickly as it is presently known possible. Meat will not interfere with any of this. I would add all the meat you want.
If the holidays are going to be a problem (as they are for most of us) you WOULD be wise to wait till after. However, you seem to be suffering a lot. It is conceivable that a wonderful holiday present to your self would be to get going on this so you could indulge NEXT year without paying such a price.
Namaste` Walt

You are a very wise man. It's true, it would be a great present to my self. But, I am acutely aware that this would be another stressor - AND...I'm currently taking an english comp. class at night that's increasing in intensity as the semester draws to a close in december, my company is changing hands and they're letting a bunch of people go starting in January (my job is safe for now, but it will be completely different),and my boyfriend is moving in with me (along with his 3 cats, which will make 6 total cats, plus my other pets), and of course, the holidays are coming up. There's more, but I think you get the picture. :-/
I just wish I hadn't fallen off the wagon to begin with. I got over confident, and thought that cheating every so often wouldn't hurt. But, apparently, it DOES hurt, and now I'm in this predicament of wanting to make the effort, but not really being up to it, and getting sicker in the meantime. *huge sigh*
It's important to me to do the elimination diet, and then go on the whole foods diet for real - and I know how much of an effort that's going to be for me. I eat out a lot to save time/work at home (no dishwasher). Though I usually eat good food, like sushi or steak, I know I won't be able to eat out when I'm on the whole foods diet. It will be another big change for me to plan all 3 meals every day. For two people. YIKES!
I suppose this could sound like a bunch of excuses. But, that's my life right now, and I'm almost afraid to try anything else at this point. I don't mind being busy, but all the CHANGES make it a lot more stressful. I am regaining my momentum with the SR - so at least that's helping.
On the bright side, "This too, shall pass!" and, really by january, many of theses things will have settled, and I will be set to succeed!
Thanks for letting me share my life story!!! (Like you had a choice!) :0)

Dear trish,
After a year of doing what helped you, you COULD cheat a little without fear. There is always risk of falling further off the wagon but occasional slips would not hurt like they do now.
The holidays (especially as you are describing yours) would be a terrible time to try this again. Remember, in January, you will still be ahead of where you started if only in the fact that you already KNOW that this works. In the very begining you had to try it on faith. Think about it.
Happy Holidays, Walt
