back pain AND THEN DIARRHEA... I feel there is a connection. Can someone explain this?

Okay. Here is the deal. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 5 years ago and finally realize this was due to chronic bracing. Working on this. Anyway, for about three horrible weeks, I developed terrible back pain that was so bad I could barely straighten my back. The pain also ran down both hips and lower legs. Then, a miracle took place and the pain left as quickly as it came. A day later, I felt as if my abdominal muscles started to spasm and move around. I could actually feel this. And then, a day after this I had horrible intestinal cramps and I was straining on the toilet for a long time before anything would come out. Finally, it did and it eventually turned into diarrhea that has now lasted about a week and a half. I MAY BE CRAZY but I feel strongly that the back pain somehow transferred into my abdominal area and thus, screwed up the abdominal muscles, which, in turn, upset my intestines and that is why I am having the diarrhea now. I feel there is a connection but I cannot explain how or why. This has happened a few times before also. DOES ANYONE know what I am talking about or has anyone experienced this? I feel that if I KNEW what the cause was, then I could prevent this from happening again. But, I am entirely convinced it is all related. Thanks.

Congratulations, Rachel.

You are already far ahead of conventional medicine's understanding of how everything is connected.

How old are you? Could you have diverticulosis (also caused by bracing via the LGS)?

Walt....

I am 30 years of age. I have had the whole battery of tests done such as colonoscopy with biopsy of terminal ileum, cat scans, small bowel follow through, etc and nothing has turned up. But, it is interesting that you talk about diverticulosis because multiple relatives of mine have suffered with that. My Grandmother developed diverticulitis and had to have emergency surgery. We almost lost her as a result. Anyway, could you possibly explain the mechanisms involved with what I am talking about? What causes what I am experiencing and describing? It is like I know but I don't know what it going on! If that makes sense... Thank you.

Thanks, Rachel.

You are really too young for diverticulae. However, your bracing could easily be promoting LGS at this age and eventually, if the process is not reversed, you WILL have them.

Since bracing also causes your fibromyositis and would change your structural integrity at the same time, if I were you (and since you have had adequate GI evaluation) I would see a Chiropractor and a Rolfer (who could work together) in consultation.

My guess is that you will be surprised in what results you will get.

Please share your experiences as you get over this. It will help others see how everything fits together.

Namaste`

Walt
