Neck problems

Posted by Tension Man on August 16, 2002 at 14:30:47:

I'm a chronic bracer without doubt. As a result I suffered with a most extreme case of Fibromyalgia before I began to improve through skilled relaxation and supplementation. Currently most of the pain is gone but my neck only moves about 10% of what it should and it will not bend backwards at all. When I lie flat on my back, even for extended periods, the back of my head remains a couple of inches off of the floor. It doesn't seem to strain any muscles, it's like my neck is a piece of wood with an kyphotic hook at the base of my skull. I often physically force some movement from it and then I can get maybe 15% of what is normal. It makes bone snapping sounds but doesn't hurt. Will or can it ever improve beyond this point or have I done myself permanent damage. I've tried CMO twice. Currently I take triple strength Osteo bi-flex, fish oil capsules and 300mg of grape seed extract daily as well as a multi-vitamin and about a gallon of water a day. I speak to my unconscious mind every time I awaken during the night. My improvement has been nothing less than miraculous except for my neck. This is my fourth year since things went nuts.
Has anyone here gotten that bad and come back to full health?

You may have an exaggerated cervical curve. If this is so, you will be in pain regardless of bracing. It is obvious that you corrected much of your bracing as evidence from your overall improvement. Two therapies that bring between 85-100% relief for many joint problems are:

1. Prolotherapy = Regenerates and strengthens connective tissue
2. Neurocranial Restructuring = This is the equivilent of fixing the structure of a building. It would be like straightening out the Leaning Tower of Piza.

I suggest you go to www.google.com and search for these 2 therapies. Prolotherapy has peer-reviewed double-blind placebo controled studies proving the beneftis. NCR has not been subjected to clinical trials but no dangers have ever been observed. It's safer than chiropractic but many times more effective. As far as I know, I am the only person on this board that has done both therapies. I can assure you that they work. With these therapies, seemingly miraculous results are the norm and not the exception. Use the therapies in conjunction with the joint nutrients you are on

I'm not a doctor, but a ecological kinesiologist;
I suspect some food allergies adding to this situation, you might want a kinesiologist to test you or do some other type of allergy testing;
SR_SKilled Relaxation will help
Rolfing also perhaps
Practicing some deep breathing exercises;
HY-has some good suggestions;

Hi, Tension.

Congratulations for having figured this out.

Depending upon how long you had the bracing before you realized what was going on, you may already have enough permanent damage to prevent any further improvement.

Ankylosing spondylitis would be such a condition. You need an xray to know how much bony damage has been done. A Chiropractor would be a good place to do this.

In the meantime, listen to Terri-Lynn and HY, for other options that may help.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
