Hi! For background I'm an elite ice dancer, and have been practice my sport for 14 years (am 18 yrs old now). I have been having backpain for the past 4 weeks resulting from competition. I had x-rays taken that only showed that i have degenerative muskuloskeletal disorder, and had an MRI taken today.
The MRI showed that the anterior endplate is partially collapsed involving the T13 body at the T11-12 disc space. There is very little loss of height, but there is some wedging of the anterior ednplate and the disc also shows degeneration and loss of height There is an anterior disc protrusion in the retroperitoneum. No posterior disc herniation is seen. It goes on to say that the abnormal disc space at T11-12 appears to be due to degeneration with an upper endplate fracture of the T12 body. No reactive marrow edema is present, which may be an old injury.
With this I was given a 5 day prescription for Prednisone (10mg) 1x 4 daily and told to do some back extensions which are part of my normal workout anyways. (I have been seeing a sports medicine doctor) For the past four weeks I've also been doing e-stim therapy, heat/cold therapy, and have had my back cracked every which way.
I guess I'm asking if the treatment seems to be in the right direction or no, and if there is anything else i could or should be doing. Thank you for your time, and I apologize that this is so long, just wanted to be thorough :o)

I forgot to mention that my doctor told me that what I have is anterior disc bulging or something like that :o)

Hi, Julia.
No doubt some minor injury started this and there is nothing you can do about THAT.
However, you had to have significant bracing (before that injury and after to the present) for it to not heal and instead progress to where you are now.
See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms and then the archives until you understand what is going on and what you need to do to stop it. Go to bracing, spinal, SR, Rolfing and then LGS--in that order.
Let us know what you learn and how you do.
