TMJ and nausea

my wife has been diagnosed as suffering from TMJ and facial arthromyalgia and has been ill for six months now - as well as having restricted jaw movement she has almost constant nausea which seems to perplex every doctor of other professional she has seen. Is this beacuse the jaw is iritating the vagus muscle as suggested by her physiotherapist? - or is it due to the anxiety and mental distress associted with the condition? - do other TMJ patients ever have this symptom? - somebody please help!

Mr. Sharp:
It is possible that your wife's nausea has nothing to do with her TMJ.
Nausea and digestive upset can be caused by hormonal changes due to a tumor on the ovaries.
This may be a long shot, but it is not that difficult to make an appointment with her gynecologist for a complete examination and blood tests to rule out ovarian cancer.

Hi, Alan.

IF your wife has had competent physicians, all other causes have already been ruled out.

Now, we can concentrate on what else it could be. This means that her nausea is caused by LGS. Since the most common cause of LGS is generalized bracing, and TMJ is ALWAYS caused by bracing, it seems only reasonable that dealing with the bracing should be her first step.

Use the glossary for any unfamiliar terms and then go to the archives until she begins to understand.

Let us know what she learns and how she does. Both of these problems should be gone within 6-12 months with benefits long before that.

Walt
