leg and joint pain

Hello,

I have seen many doctors and none seem to have an answer for my chronic pain and discomfort. I will give you a small history and then tell you of my pain. It started about 15 year ago.
1) First had angina

All on the same side (left)
2) When exercising my ankle would give out then finally sprained and I was casted
3) My knee began to bother me and finally the menicus cartlidge tore.
4) I was exercising and hurt my lower back - They say it is a strained sacrum joint ligament. Since this injury I have been in orthodics. (eight years now)
5) Now I have swelling in all three joints ankle, knee and sacrum. Everyday- it is quite painfull. I cannot even sit with comfort.
6) The newest pain in my life is now in both legs. When I go up the stairs it is exhausting to my legs. I had testing done for artery and veins. Some abnormalities did show but the vascular doctor said that it could not be causing my symptons so the search continues.
7) Now I cannot sit for long periods of time before I feel the need to massage, or prop my legs up.

I am a little scared that something progressive is going on and no one can seem to find it so that I can start treating it.

Please give me any guidance you can - I am going for a full body scan next month for my peace of mind.

So far all they can say is that I have arthritis of the lower back (very mild) and some abnormalities in my vascular systems, a pulled sacrum ligament of which for 8 years has not gotten better, my heart is fine even thought I experience angina, One doctor ruled out RA a couple years ago.
So, as you can see I have been to many doctors and have read alot of literature. I am scared and everyone thinks I am hallucinating (SP) but I know I hurt everyday and it is not by choice. I just want to know what is going on to cause me, a 44 year old this much discomfort. I am also seeing another Rhuematologist in a couple weeks. I am not sure I believe the first one. HELP HELP HELP - Any suggestions.

Hi, Vicki.

In my opinion, you are one more victim of the conventional allopathic monopoly!

Your total body scan will show nothing you do not already know. In MY opinion, they are just doing it to get you off their necks. They can then say: "See, we have totally scanned your body and found nothing." Obviously it will not take that to convince you you are barking up the wrong tree since you are already here looking for alternatives.

This is severe and generalized bracing! Go to the glossary and then the archives about bracing and let us know what you learn.

In the meantime you can get some temporary relief from Rolfing or the massage schedule described in the archives. You would profit greatly, in the long run, by the practice of Alexander Technique OR Feldenkrais AND SR.

See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.

As you get well, let us know how you do. Your story would be an inspiration to others and help them avoid what you have gone through.

Walt

Vicki,

I hope you come back to read Dr. Stoll's reply! Regardless of your diagnosis, I think the treatment would be the same, if you want real improvement.

I concur about massage, Rolfing, and other bodywork treatments being beneficial for these types of injuries. You've got a lot of structural imbalance, of many years' duration, and without intervention, it will just get worse. In my experience (over 20 years of similar chronic pain and neck, sacrum, knee and ankle injuries) the instabilities typically progress from one area to the next, and they build on each other. Any place in the skeleton where there is rigidity or limited movement will cause stress and strain on another area and the muscles will react accordingly to balance out the stress. This translates to unstable joints, chronic muscle tension, spasms, etc.

To get out of the cycle I started with many years of chiropractic adjustments. When that was only marginally helpful, I started with massage. That was working better, so I progressed to more technical types of massage, then stretching, relaxing, and retraining modalities. This year I had 11 sessions of Rolfing. Now that that's done and I'm much improved, I've moved on to neurocranial restructuring and am beginning to see some benefits from that.

Adding serious wellness, Dr. Stoll's three-legged wellness stool of whole foods diet, skilled relaxation (SR), and exercise will allow you to feel better quicker and your body will have more to work with to heal itself. Spend some dedicated time all over this website and you will find the tools you need.

Wishing you the best. Please keep us posted on your progress.
