hi dr. stoll, i have a problem with left sided numbness. i first noticed it about 6 mos ago in my left thigh area after hitting some golf balls (though that may not have anything to do with this). now i have it in my left hip area, and sometimes it is like there is a line down my center with numbness in my head, face, throat area, chest, shoulder, arm, and hip area. it is not there all the time. it comes and goes. i have been to my dr and had a brain mri which was good. i also had a pelvic ultrasound, and an upper gi, both were good. all my bloodwork is fine and so are my vital signs. i am 31 years old and have worked as a nurse so i lift alot of patients. i am not working at the present time due to this. could this be something to do with my spine. it is getting really annoying. i also suffer from panic attacks and this is not helping. my dr doesn't know what to do for me now. i also shake alot on my left side (i shake all the time in my left hand) i also saw a neurologist who said all was ok, some people just shake. please help, i am desperate for some answers. i want to get back to work and to life. thank you and i look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi, Geri.
This is nmost likely connected with your panic attacks.
The massage series suggested in the bracing archives should give you a month or so of relief and so certify the diagnosis for you.
In the meantime, I would suggest you read the bracing archives and start serious SR as more of these bodymind warnings are in your future if you do not.
Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Dr. Stoll, thanks soooo much for writing me back. I am going to order the Relaxation and Stress Reduction Wkbk you recommend so i can get started on the SR. As far as the massage series, i have looked in the bracing archives. do you recommend rolfing, deep therapeutic, or hellerwork 4 times? Do i need to take any supplements to help me. i am currently taking vitamin b complex, 1000 mg of vitamin c, and 400iu of vitamin e daily. i was taking a multi from dr. andrew weil's website, but they are very expensive and i didn't notice anything. you are a blessing to many of us dr. stoll. after going to my md and having him look at me and say i just don't know, it helps to finally be getting some direction. thank you, geri ps when i get my "spells" my left ear also feels full.

Thanks, Geri.
Rolfing OR Hellerwork, Alexander Technique OR Feldenkrais.
The series of 6 massages will give you immediate relief and prove to you that you are on the right track BUT the benefits will only last a few weeks-months, unless you are successful at the SR immediately.
Magnesium (see the archives) is the only supplement that might help more.
Let us know how you do.

Geri, I too have suffered from left side numbness for close to two years now. I know it sounds weird when I would tell someone that the spells were episodic, coming and going sometimes virtually changing from hour to hour. Some days I do not feel it at all and others it's there frequently. It affects the whole left side of my face, arm, butt and leg, but not always at the same time. Sitting for long periods of time aggrevates it and my left eye vision goes double when sitting for too long. Getting up and walking around usually allieviates it. I must tell you that after exhaustive searching for the reason for this along with a number of other symptoms indicative of an overactive immune system, I finally had a heavy metal challange test for mercury and my readings were off the charts. Mercury is a neurotoxin and can cause a whole host of neurological symptoms as well as disrupt the entire immune system. Anxiety and depression are at the top of the list. So although relaxation training makes sense to try to get rid of the bracing, it will not be effective if there is still a toxin attacing your body.
