Our usual 8 hours of sleep per night and two 20 minutes SR sessions per day makes for a lot of lying around.
During sleep are we not relaxed and would it not have the same effect or better than SR?

Hi, Sleep lover.
No one, yet, has dicscovered how to catch up with the stored FOF without an investment of time. However, all who do it soon find that they are getting back more time than it is costing them.
SR practitioners can attest.

What does FOF stand for?

Thank you - I should have figured that out!

If sleep were doing what you wish it were doing, there wouldn't be near the need for this site. Obviously sleep is not enough. Why not wake up a half hour earlier and meditate for that last half hour. It will do you more good than that last half hour of sleep.

I can personally attest to the fact that I used to brace more when I was asleep than when awake. I would grind my teeth and tense my head, neck and back muscles. Oftentimes I would awake with a numb arm just from laying on my back. I figured that it was from bracing the ulnar (ulna?sp?) nerve. I would wake up with swollen hands and eyes. Also, my ears would be crackling and ringing mercilessly. SR has relieved a lot of that although I have a long way to go because I have not been practicing near long enough or consistently enough. At least the ear thing has mostly subsided and the numb arm only comes once in a while now.
During the day, I consiously make an effort to relax those muscles that I normally tense. I am about to take up yoga to add to my SR experience.
Something I have just found today may help you too is in the following link. It goes into further detail other than just the physical of how meditation can really change your life.

I think that hypothalamus resensitizers can do the same as what SR does for releasing stored stress effect. On the biochemical level, stored stress is desensitization of hormone receptors, isn't it? So the body produce more and more stress hormones even for smaller events because hypothalamus is not reacting as it should. This is similar to insulin resistance.
Of course, SR has other benefits, not just FOF release.

No, not obvious. Maybe many people don't get enough sleep (actually we know they don't!), even the standard 8 hours. Also going to sleep later than needed may reduce how much your body gets rejuvinated during sleep. So, I don't think that since there are many sick people, it follows that sleep is not enough.

I don't think I said exactly what you thought you read but I really don't want to quibble about it. I stand by what I said. Enough said.

You should relax all muscles before falling asleep. This should make your sleep better.
