Hello
This morning i woke up with the most terrible pain at the back of my head. I could barely move my head forward. The muscles that run along each side the spine of the neck were soooo tender and terribly sore all the way up into my skull. When i push on the muscles they still hurt, and even up into the skull...could this have been just from sleeping funny..I often wake up with tight muscles, feeling as though i had been working out really hard the day before!! i also have a misaligned vertebrae at the present that i am being treated for..thanks!

Sounds like that misaligned vertebae is to blame. I had the same thing earlier this week, went to the chiropractor yesterday and she adjusted my spine. Today, the headache and muscle stiffness is gone. I think I need to replace my contour pillow.

Hi Sandy,
For some people, this "sleeping funny" causing severe muscle pain goes away slowly in a few days, but it doesn't happen that way for everyone. Sometimes it won't resolve without assistance.
Schedule some time with a professional massage therapist for some immediate relief and continue working with the chiropractor.
If you're receiving chiropractic for neck problems, your healing will go faster and better if you alternate chiropractic and massage sessions. (It will also help you avoid this type of sudden pain problem as well).
I don't know why your chiropractor doesn't have you seeing a massage therapist! The two work best together -- "muscles hold bones in place."
Best wishes,
Happygal (Certified Massage Therapist)

Hi, Sandy.
If you hadn't been bracing this would not have happened to you. Listen to Happygal. I believe that your "misalligned vertebra" is also caused by your bracing.
See the bracing archives and the glossary.
Let us know what you learn. The more you understand this the better you will be able to get rid of it and concentrate on more fun things than your neck.
